EDGAR, a page-oriented editor, allows dots-on-the-screen editing
of files representing braille documents. The parameters are the
names of the files to be edited.

EDGAR is unable to run on this system as currently configured.
This could be because of insufficient memory; if the figure given
in the comment above is less than 48K, then that is probably the
reason. To overcome this, you may need to remove resident
("pop-up" or TSR) programs and/or increase your computer's memory
to the 512K minimum. It is also possible that the current screen
type or mode is monochrome or not one of the standard graphics
modes usable by EDGAR for braille editing. If possible, set to a
graphics mode such as VGA, EGA, MCGA or CGA and try again. For
example, on many systems the DOS command
MODE BW80
will initiate CGA mode. After running EDGAR on such systems, you
could restore monochrome mode with the command
MODE MONO
; The following 3000... strings may in some cases be length sensitive.
; Note that line-ending spaces may be used for "padding", and often must
; be in order to avoid unwanted centering. Note also
; that all variable (%...) fields must be preserved, in order.

This program is suitable for viewing braille files, learning about
braille, and doing 'what if' editing. However, unlike the full
Duxbury Braille Editor (Edgar), it is not designed to actually
alter or produce files for embossing or other subsequent use.

Regarding the full Edgar (Duxbury Braille Editor), contact:
Duxbury Systems, Inc.
435 King St., P.O. Box 1504, Littleton, Mass. USA 01460
Tel.: 508-486-9766, Fax: 508-486-9712

>edgar 3050
Error reading %s - ignoring
>edgar 3051
An error has occurred while reading part of
%s
from disk; therefore some of the present editing workspace may be
invalid. Edgar will proceed anyway, but you may wish to write out
the current working copy to a checkpoint or alternate file (via
alt-w or ctl-w), and/or exit (alt-x), to avoid undue propagation
of the problem before the system manager can correct it.
>edgar 3052
Error writing %s - exiting
>edgar 3053
An error has occurred while writing part of
%s
to disk, possibly because the disk is full. You will now be given
several chances to write out the current edited form of this file,
before Edgar terminates automatically. The first name proposed is
to the 'checkpoint' file, but you may wish to choose another, and
in fact may need to direct the output to another disk, such as a
floppy disk with plenty of room, to escape a full-disk condition.
