REVISION HISTORY
══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
6.6a
o Minor corrections to the DMmanage Hardware Managing utility.
o American Express Card telephone orders now accepted.
6.6
{
Ver 6.6 has changed its startup MENU.BAT file slightly.
For UPGRADE evaluators/registered users:
o You should let DOSmenu remake your MENU.BAT with the DMUTIL /M command or
with the new install program.
Specifically, the parameters (%1..%5) have changed on the MENU.BAT re-call
near the end of the batch file.
}
o Added a new DOSmenu installation program (INSTALL.EXE).
o INSTALL and DMUTIL /M now saves any already existing
*.BAT/INI/NTE/MNU files to *.*0 _before_ remaking them.
o Fixed a small anomaly in the startup batch file (MENU.BAT)
that sometimes prevented DOSmenu from going to the last used
menu and menu item.
o Minor overall system changes to help get you up and running
quicker and easier during initial installation.
6.5d
o Hardware Managing Service has been improved. A new switch for
DMmanage allows you to purge the hardware database for
machines no longer active. You can choose the period of
inactivity.
o Small anomalies in DMmeter have been fixed.
6.5c
o An unattended run feature has been added. You can now press
Ctrl+Enter on a menu item to run that item at a future time
of your choosing. See documenetation for specifics.
o DMmanage now cuts the user column at 6 characters from the
left for names longer than six. This column is only for
information to help locate a machine.
6.5b
o Fixed a problem that caused DMlogin's screen saver function to
rapidly blink under certain conditions (specifically, if you
had not entered a password in DMLOGIN.DAT for the supervisor
escape option).
o New rights have been added for both menu items and notices:
)=HOUR greater than current hour. {)=01}..
-=HOUR equal to current hour. {-=12}..
(=HOUR less than current hour. {(=24}..
6.5a
o Fixed an anomaly that only allowed DMmanage to work when the
user was in DOSMENU.INI's home directory (which is how the
default startup batch file works).
6.5
{
Ver 6.5 has changed its startup MENU.BAT file slightly.
For UPGRADE evaluators/registered users only:
o You should let DOSmenu remake your MENU.BAT with the DMUTIL /M command.
Specifically, the order of parameters has changed on the MENU.BAT re-call near
the end of the batch file. Also a line was added near the top of the file to
call DMMANAGE.EXE. These changes were made to accommodate the new Hardware
Managing Services option.
}
o Complete Hardware Managing Services are now included with this
version. This service lets you collect hardware specifics
for all machines running DOSmenu on your network. This data
is saved to an ascii database that can be delimited for easy
import to any program. This optional service is turned on
with two new lines under the [Network] section of the file
DOSMENU.INI; "Use Hardware Managing=" and "Manage File=".
o DMmeter now has a scrollable screen so that all of the
metered applications can be seen and acted on.
o DMmeter can now reset specific application counts, just like
WOmeter (the Windows version).
o DMmeter can now refuse an application to a user when the
license count is too high, just like software metering from
within DOSmenu's menu files.
o DOSmenu is now copyrighted/distributed by Bremer Corporation.
o Most documentation files have been combined into the main
DOSmenu documentation file (and manual).
6.4h
o A complete workstation status report (multiple screens) is now
available for any workstation running DOSmenu. Workstation
statistics, menu statistics, DOS environment variables, and
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files are shown. A great tool
for quick, on-the-spot trouble analysis.
o The screen title length (for company title, etc.) has been
increased to 78 characters.
6.4g
o More bonus programs have been added to the registered version:
DMbeep, DMyn, DMstats, DMcboot, DMwboot. Check DMBONUS.DOC
for specifics.
6.4f
o Fixed an anomally that caused both DOSmenu and DMutil to read
the DOSMENU.INI file incorrectly for Yes/No answers.
o DOSmenu now attributes its temporary run batch files to both
readonly and hidden to help prevent accidental erasures.
6.4e
o Re-fixed a problem where the temporary batch file, when used,
would not work correctly if more than 99 users were
connected to a file server.
6.4d
o Greatly expanded menu file limits. Can now have 40+ sub-menus
per menu file. Can now have up to 30 menu items per main
menu and all sub-menus. The menu command line length is now
back to 80 characters and the total number of commands per
menu item is now back to 25 commands.
o DMquery has now been fixed (once and for all!). The answer is
to NOT use the {r=nobreak} right when using this function.
o A "Clear Screen By Default" option is now available for use
under the [Interface] section of the DOSMENU.INI file. This
determines whether the user's screen will automatically be
cleared prior to running a menu item. The {r=clear} right
has been expanded to include {r=noclear} to counter this
option in any event.
6.4c
o Memory usage has been enhanced (fixes an anomaly introduced in
versions 6.4a and 6.4b). You are now more likely to be able
to load the maximum sub-menus per file (15) if you have at
least 550K available at DOS. If you have less, then you
will need to reduce the number of sub-menus. We recommend
using no more than 10 sub-menus per file to cover unusual
user memory circumstances. Remember, you may always load
additional menu files with the /LOAD and /MENU commands.
(This enhancement necessitated the following: menu item
command line length has been reduced to 60; the total number
of commands per menu item has been reduced to 15).
o A new view right, {v=text_file}, has been added. Now you can
show multiple lines of text (up to 20 lines of 72 chars max)
to your users before running a menu item, if desired.
o DMlogin now allows up to two additional ways of logging into
the network for support/power users. See DMLOGIN.DOC. The
DMLOGIN.INI file syntax has also changed slightly (erase
previous DMLOGIN.INI and rerun DMLOGIN without parameters to
rebuild it).
o A "Password Exception Group" option is now available for use
under the [Security] section of the DOSMENU.INI file. By
entering a group here, those members will not be subjected
to DOSmenu's passwords (previously defined by you) from
within DOSmenu.
6.4b
o An "Information Color=" option is now available for use under
the [Interface] section of the DOSMENU.INI and DMLOGIN.INI
files. The default background color of the screen
information lines is still 7 (white), but it may now be
changed to a range between 0 and 7 to match the similarly
changed desktop color (see documentation).
o A "Use CRT Border=" option is now available for use under the
[Interface] section of the DOSMENU.INI and DMLOGIN.INI
files. The default is now YES. If you do not want to use
the CRT border, be sure this line exists and answer NO.
o The {q=question} right has been expanded. if a '!' is placed
before the question, {q=!comment}, then the question becomes
a simple comment instead.
o The {r=run} right has been expanded. You may now also use the
word 'clear' to clear the DOS screen before running a
command; {r=clear}. The 'nobreak' option is still available
and when used together, they are separated with a comma;
{r=clear,nobreak}.
o DOSmenu now better utilizes the Tab, Shift+Tab, and SpaceBar
keys for menu navigation and dialog box chores.
6.4a
o A "Max Menu Window Height=" option is now available for use in
the DOSMENU.INI file. The default maximum menu height is
still 10, but it may now be changed to a range between 3 and
17. The total number of items per menu is still 20.
o Fixed a small anomaly that prevented DOSmenu from passing
correct information to DMquery under certain circumstances.
6.4
o Starting with this version, registered users can receive
automatic updates simply by downloading new versions of the
shareware self-extracting ZIP file, DOSMNU.EXE. Simply
unzip this file and copy its files over your previously
registered files. Previously received registered DOSmenu
packages (of version 6.4 or later) will automatically turn
this latest shareware version into the latest registered
version.
Registered users who are unable to download the shareware file
may still update their versions through the mail by sending
$15 to the author for shipping & handling.
Obviously, to take advantage of this new automated process,
you will need to obtain version 6.4 (or later) from the
author first.
6.3c
o DOSmenu will now interpret the %var% syntax used by DOS in
batch files if given on the DOSMENU.INI Private Directory=
line. Example: If you SET HDIR=F:\USERS\USER from DOS,
then the line Private Directory=%hdir% will work correctly.
6.3b
o The DOS batch file word 'call' is now correctly NOT placed in
front of batch file lines that start with a ':', which
normally signify a label within the batch file.
6.3a
o Fixed small problem where F6 for Edit Personal Menu did not
work correctly under some conditions.
6.3
o Fixed recently introduced problem where software metering was
not always stopping the command when licenses were used up.
o Software metering denials due to no available licenses are now
logged if logging is turned on and metering takes place from
within DOSmenu (not from within DMmeter).
6.2c
o Fixed problem where %var% interpretation was not working
correctly in DOSmenu-made batch files.
o Minor cosmetic changes.
6.2b
o Fixed a problem where the /LOAD, /NEW and /LOGIN commands were
not interpreting a %var% in their command, if given. See
the end of DMUSERS.DOC for more on this.
6.2a
o The maximum number of commands per menu item has been raised
from 10 to 25 commands.
6.2
{
Ver 6.2 has changed its startup MENU.BAT file slightly.
For UPGRADE evaluators/registered users only:
o You should let DOSmenu remake your MENU.BAT with the DMUTIL /M command.
}
o A new /LOGIN command facilitates logging into other servers
from a DOSmenu menu item command! See /LOGIN in the DOC for
details.
o A new /NEW command allows chaining from one startup batch file
to another. This feature now makes it easy to move between
attached servers with DOSmenu! See /NEW in the DOC for
details.
o You can now load menu files from anywhere! A path is honored,
if given with the /LOAD and /MENU commands. If no path is
specified, then DOSmenu looks in its home directory, as
usual.
o DOSmenu will now replace all %dos_var% syntax with the actual
DOS variable's text on a menu item's command line (as long
as the first character of the command line is not % which
denotes a sub-menu name).
o All menu item commands that have a path given as part of their
command are now checked before DOSmenu attempts to run them.
o DOSMENU.EXE is now even smaller and faster.
o DMsaver now has three different screen save types. Type
DMSAVER ? for more.
o DMutil's editor keys are now more like the default Windows
editor keys.
o In DMutil, the defined admin password now works anywhere a
password is required.
6.1
o Added a great Windows Meter Viewer/Reset utility to both the
shareware and registered versions, WOmeter. This program is
part of our Windows Office Menu System and it works with the
DOSmenu Software Metering Services as well.
6.0c
o Reversed actions of ^Home - ^PgUp and ^End - ^PgDn keys to
the way Windows apps utilize them -for standardization.
6.0b
o Added admin password capability to DMlogin.
6.0a
o Added startup file checking option to DMlogin.
6.0
o Added two utilities:
DMlogin: A great login/logout utility that can be used as a
front end to DOSmenu (although not required either way).
This program can bring true order and security to your login
process.
DMpause: Like the DOS 'pause' command but ^C and ^Break are
trapped.
5.9a
o Fixed small anomally when using the {f=!file} right.
5.9
o A new option, Max Log File Size=, has been added to the
DOSMENU.INI file which allows DOSmenu to erase the log file
after it gets to a certain size automatically.
5.8a
o A Timed Group and an Untimed Group has been added to the
DOSMENU.INI file. This allows you to specify one group for
which menu timing will occur and/or one group for which menu
timing will be ignored, if the Timed Quit Menu Time= is
entered.
5.8
o New rights have been added for both menu items and notices:
T=TODAY where TODAY=su,mo,tu,we,th,fr,sa,su. {t=mo,tu}..
>=DATE greater than today's date. {>=03/07/1994}..
==DATE equal to today's date. {==03/07/1994}..
<=DATE less than today's date. {<=03/07/2002}..
o DMutil now has more informative help screens.
5.7c
o Fixed a screen problem that prevented TSRs (such as NoteWorks)
from displaying their messages on top of DOSmenu's screen.
5.7b o Fixed problem that stopped mouse from working in menu system
under various circumstances (registered version only).
5.7a
o Fixed a problem where the temporary batch file, when used,
would not work correctly if more than 99 users were
connected to a file server.
5.7
o Five optional global alternate function key DOS commands have
been added. Hold down the alternate key to see the text for
these commands, which are defined in DOSMENU.INI.
o The network node address, if captured to a DOS variable, is
now shown on the menu screen.
o DMutil now has a command that allows you to 'see' all tabs and
spaces in a file. This helps you remove errant/extra spaces
and tabs in your menu files.
o A file viewer, calendar, network queue changer, and network
printing utility has been added to the registered bonus
package.
5.6a
o Concurrent usage of metered applications is now real time and
continuous. This can be accomplished on the command line
with DMMETER /VIEW.
5.6
o Users may now run their own personal menus from their defined
private directories. They can also edit and maintain their
personal menu file (both of these options can be disabled).
o More useful comments have been added to the startup batch
file.
o Additional network notes have been added to the DMUSERS.DOC
file.
o Many small but useful improvements have been made.
5.5
o The lead character for DOSmenu's temporary DOS variables has
been changed from '@' to '_' to be compatible with 4DOS.
Make sure you change the @ symbols in your start-up MENU.BAT
file accordingly, or either re-install your system with the
DMUTIL /M command.
5.4
o DOSmenu now always returns to the last menu and item after
running a menu command.
o An external screen saver function is available with the
registered version. You may use it or any other screen
saver file you wish.
5.3
o Minor anomaly fixes to problems that sometimes allowed a menu
loaded with either the /LOAD or /MENU commands to lock the
system.
o Minor anomaly fixes to problems that sometimes allowed a menu
file to be misread with the wrong rights assigned (usually
too few rights).
o The maximum sub-menus per main menu file has been increased
from 9 to 15 maximum (depending on DOS memory available).
5.2c
o A new option has been added to DMutil that allows parsing of
specific user ID entries from the central log file, if used.
5.2a
o A new right, ENVIRONMENT, has been added to test for any DOS
env var you wish. {e=envvar~envvar_text}.
5.2
o A software metering service has been added to this version.
See DOSMENU.DOC for specifics.
o A combined central log file option has been added to enhance
the logging capabilities. This is in contrast to the normal
logging of user activites to a private user log file.
o The anomaly that caused the MENU.BAT contents to echo to the
screen instead of being written to the file during initial
installation (DMUTIL /M) has been corrected.
o Other minor corrections have been made.
5.1a
o Minor corrections only.
5.1
{
Ver 5.1 has changed its startup MENU.BAT file and its DOSMENU.INI file and has
added a few requirements. Note that some function keys have also changed.
For UPGRADE evaluators/registered users only:
o Make sure all of your menu files end with .MNU (and are called that way).
o Make sure your DMUTIL.EXE is in the same directory as DOSMENU.EXE.
o Follow the Quick Start instructions (listed with DMUTIL ?). Running
DMUTIL /M is safe as it will not overwrite of your menu files. Delete
your DOSMENU.INI file and startup batch file first so that new ones can
be made for you.
}
o Added the capability to load new main menus permanently with
the /MENU command. This is an improvement over the /LOAD
command. See DOSMENU.DOC for specifics.
o Added a main screen title option for company name, etc.
o Added additional security options.
o The extension .MNU is now required for menu files.
o Changed DMQuery's DOS variables to work better with 4DOS.
o The DOSMENU.INI lines can now be in any order, and some lines
have been added and changed.
o The startup MENU.BAT has changed slightly (but importantly).
5.0
o Revamped DMutil (and its internal editor) completely. The
editor is now a multi-file, windowed, mouse-driven editor
with standard shift-key or mouse blocking conventions
employed. DMutil must reside in DOSmenu's home directory.
It can be password-protected.
o Added ability to interactively edit all menu system files with
DMutil. Results are immediately processed and displayed.
This option can be password-protected.
o Added complete user logging capability. Log file shows date,
time, menu action, user, node, server, and memory stats for
user station.
o Fixed problem whereby temporary batch file was sometimes
sporatically written.
4.2a,b
o Fixed problems that developed if an empty note file was
present at startup.
4.2
o Fixed problem where DOSmenu did not always load additional
menu files correctly.
4.1c
o Fixed anomaly that allowed user to keep the notice file open
after reading it, which further disallowed admin editing
while users where in their menu system.
4.1b
o Forces DOSmenu to 25 line screen if not already there.
4.1a
o Anomaly corrections in notices and additional LOCATION right
added for notices.
4.1
