  11. WCL is a command line processor for Windows. It provides the following
  12. advantages :
  13.  
  14.  
  15.    1. It is far better than Program Manager's "File, Run" menu - in that
  16.       it does EVERYTHING that you can do with "File, Run", and then MUCH
  17.       MORE.
  18.  
  19.  
  20.    2. It can either COMPLEMENT or REPLACE Program Manager as an application
  21.       launcher - meaning;
  22.  
  23.           [a] It can do EVERYTHING that Program Manager can do with
  24.               respect to launching applications, and more
  25.           [b] It can act as your Windows "shell", in place of Program
  26.               Manager
  27.           [c] It can execute the programs on your "RUN=" and "LOAD="
  28.               lines in WIN.INI, when you start Windows
  29.           [d] In addition to [c] above, it can run programs in the
  30.               "STARTUP=" lines in its own file WCL.INI, when you start
  31.               Windows
  32.           [e] It can run a special "AUTOEXEC" batch file when you start
  33.               Windows
  34.           [f] It can shut down Windows itself
  35.           [g] It can shut down any Windows program that is currently
  36.               running
  37.           [h] It can change the name of the main window of any active
  38.               Windows program
  39.           [i] It gives you a scroll back buffer, and command line history
  40.               - things lacking in Program Manager.
  41.           [j] It can run the COMMAND.COM versions of DOS internal commands
  42.               (with the SPAWN command - in a separate DOS session), as well
  43.               as WCL's native Windows implementations of these internal
  44.               commands.

  47.    3. It is a better than opening the MS-DOS prompt;
  48.  
  49.           [a] WCL is a FULL Windows program - the MS-DOS prompt is
  50.               NOT.

  52.           [b] WCL takes full advantage of the Windows environment -
  53.               the MS-DOS prompt does not
  54.  
  55.           [c] Depending on your PIF settings, each copy of the MS-DOS
  56.               can prompt requires at least 650kb of Windows' memory -
  57.               the first copy of WCL requires less than 100kb (the first
  58.               copy of BIGWCL requires 175kb); and each subsequent copy
  59.               requires only about 25kb

  61.           [d] Thus, in a typical setup, you will need about 20 copies
  62.               of WCL, RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME, to use the same amount
  63.               of Windows memory as ONE copy of the MS-DOS prompt!!!

  65.           [e] WCL can execute DOS programs - so can the MS-DOS prompt - but
  66.               WCL can also execute Windows programs - which the MS-DOS
  67.               prompt CANNOT
  68.  
  69.           [f] WCL can even spawn a copy of the MS-DOS prompt itself
  70.  
  71.           [g] WCL can run practically all the internal DOS commands,
  72.               through built-in technology, and Windows API calls - but
  73.               it also contains several internal commands of its own, which
  74.               neither DOS nor the MS-DOS prompt can match or even imitate.

  76.           [h] WCL can run practically all the external DOS commands that
  77.               are safe to run from the MS-DOS prompt
  78.  
  79.           [i] WCL (the big version) gives you a scroll back buffer in its 
  80.               main window - something which the MS-DOS prompt lacks
  81.  
  82.           [j] In addition to being able to match the most useful features
  83.               of DOS, WCL has a lot of its own goodies, which you cannot
  84.               get anywhere else. It even allows you to start copies of
  85.               the MS-DOS prompt should you want to do so.

  87.               For example, WCL allows you to use your PC and your line
  88.               printer like an electric type-writer. It can also save the
  89.               exact state of your Windows desktop when you exit Windows,
  90.               and restore it when next you start Windows. These are just
  91.               two out of the zillions of features.

  94.    4. WCL gives you both FILE MANAGEMENT features, and APPLICATION
  95.       EXECUTION features in one package, plus several SYSTEM services.
  96.       Most things that can be achieved in the File Manager can also
  97.       be achieved in WCL, by simply typing a command. Yet you can do
  98.       many things in WCL that cannot be done with File Manager.

  101.    5. WCL is compatible with OS/2 version 2.1 and Windows NT 3.1
  102.

  104.    6. WCL is cheap. At £18 or ($26 US) it costs less than the cost of
  105.       a night out.

  108.    7. WCL is being constantly updated, and the author is very responsive
  109.       to suggestions by registered users.

  112.    8. WCL increases your Windows productivity no little. It is a MUST
  113.       for every Windows user.
