Because of the 'sleep' mode on the Zoom Pocket/modem, some software
has trouble initializing the modem. If the software uses CTS/RTS and the
modem is 'asleep' it will not wake up. If you cannot turn OFF CTS/RTS flow,
you can get around this by turning the modem OFF, and just before the Init
(or dial) turn it ON. It will be awake for a few seconds and get
initialized (or dialed).
If the modem works, but the Fax driver won't load, look to see if LEDs
on the Pkt flash as the software tries to initialize the modem. If the LED
stays dim, and the others don't flash I suspect a cable problem, or RTC/CTS
is being used.
>>> This modem is CLASS-1 fax, and your software must support and be set
for CLASS-1. If there isn't a selection for class-1 or Pkt, then choose
Zoom AFC/AFX. This modem does Sendfax/9600 Rec'v fax/4800 It is a
standard 25 pin connector. Power-9v battery, or +12v on pin-9, or 7.5 DC
adapter provided.
The MNP and V42bis for this modem are provided via RPI (Rockwell
Protocol Interface). This is a new combination of hardware & software.
There is a V42bis.DRV file on the diskette, and the software must recognise
RPI for it to Interface that driver with the modem. * * * We do ship all
PC pkges with RPI software. There is no RPI for the MAC at this date.
There are not very many term programs that support RPI for V42bis.
You can pick AFC/AFX in any that do have RPI, or pick Hayes Smartmodem 2400
in those that do not.
Right now I know of 3 that do..
