  2.                            Digital Phone Systems

  4.   If a normal 'house' phone can dial on your Digital Phone system, then the
  5. modem  will also dial through it. However the modem may not recognise  dial
  6. tone.  In this  case use X1 or X3 in the dial prefix (ATX1DT) or  the  init
  7. string. X1 will see neither dial tone nor BUSY. X3 will see the BUSY  only.
  8. If the software/fax doesn't have a place for init, change call-progress  to
  9. NONE.

  11.      There  is  also  X2  if you have trouble  with  false  BUSY,  but  can
  12. recognise dialtone (can happen w/voice answer fax machines).

  14.      Sometimes putting a '@' at the end of the dial string helps (after the
  15. phone  number, as that waits for 5 seconds of silence after the  other  end
  16. picks up the phone. (will wait for silence after a voice answer).

  18.      The  modem uses only 2 wires on the phone line, the center 2 wires.  A
  19. phone  which uses other wires can still get it's signals through the  other
  20. wires, even though the modem cannot see them.

  22.      If  you  have trouble dialing PULSE there is a command to  change  the
  23. pulse  make/break  ratio needed in some areas (usually overseas).  &P  (see
  24. your manual).
