3-27-94 Cannot Fax V-series
As hard as the developers of the code try, there will always be a fax
you can't Send to or maybe Rec'v a fax from. There are too many variables
to promise you can connect everywhere. Hundreds of makes and models of fax
machines, hundreds of makes and models of faxmodems, ROMS, and of course
dozens of software packages with their different versions too. In a perfect
world all would be compatible. But it's not, so it's just impossible to
make every one perfectly compatible (even between fax machines). The Zoom
V-series (V32 & V42bis) modems support both Class-1 & Class-2 fax. If your
software also has the Class1 driver try that on stubborn fax's. Very
often, one driver will work when another does not. One is not 'better' than
the other, just different. >>> Class-1 seems to work better on some 'noisy'
lines than Class-2, so you may be able to Send or Rec'v a fax with Class-1
that you can't with CLass-2. <<<
Also try setting a slower speed, (or tell the sender to try a slower
speed) in case the connection doesn't support your highest fax speed. Try
9600, 7200 and 4800. It may possibly be line noise. Sometime you might have
trouble with 1 fax machine you usually fax to OK. This may clear up if you
call right back (you will get different connections). Or the phone company
may be routing the call on a different route for a few hours or even a day.
* At least 1 fax machine (Panasonic) needs to have the 'frequency'
changed on the FAX machine to receive from a Faxmodem. A Brother fax
machine also needed an adjustment to rec'v from a faxmodem. Other brands
may need this change too.
Most Zoom V-Series Faxmodems come with both Class-1/2 drivers.
