Offical-type Application for becoming a
B&D BetaSite and/or a B&D Distribution Location.
B&D Software
This is the official-type application for those illustrious
SysOps who desire to become a BetaSite and/or a B&D Distribu-
tion Location.
History of B&D Software
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
B&D Software is owned and operated by myself, Bill Hicks,
(the "B") and by my wife, Debra Hicks, (the "D") in our little
shack in beautiful suburban Hanceville, Alabama (population 1200,
ya-hoo!)
I started programming doors mainly because I enjoy the challenge and
like to write "fun games" which people can enjoy without a lot of
hassle and without worrying about whether or not they will lose their
planet or get blown up before they get to log back on the BBS. In
other words, I am rather tired of the old, sick, kill 'em and torture
'em types of door games so prevalent in today's market (although, at
the bequest of some of my "younger" callers I have succumbed to
carrying TW2002, Outpost Trader and a couple of others of that ilk!)
While I have been using computers since the days of punch tape and
16k expansion slots (prior to the advanced days of floppy disks and
300 baud modems) I have only been BBSing for about three years and
only ran a BBS for about 2 years. So, while my knowledge of BBS's is
limited, my knowledge of programming runs back a couple of decades.
Since I first sent out the request for BBS's to join with us in
testing and distributing our software I have had several offers (in
exchange for the gratis registrations I offer accepted BetaTest sites
and the exceptional discount I offer to those BBS's which elect to
help distribute our software). Because of the great on-rush (which
both surprised and over-joyed both Debra and myself) we have had to
become somewhat "restrictive" on our qualifying procedures.
We appreciate the desire of any Sysop who wants to assist us by
becoming an "official" B&D Software BetaSite and/or Distribution
sight. But, because we simply cannot give out a free registration to
every BBS which decides to assist us, we have had to qualify those
accepted in the following manner:
0-Your BBS must be a member of either FIDONet or DOORNet.
1-B&D Software doors must not be included in a file area or
directory which includes Adult, Sexually-oriented, or other
programs which tend to promote a lascivious attitude toward God,
Mother, or Apple Pie [grin].
2-B&D Software doors must be made available to all "regular" users of
your BBS. Not that we want to instruct ANYONE on who can or cannot
use their BBS but we do insist that the doors (being tested) not be
limited to just a special few. If a User meets your qualifications
for "normal" BBS access then allow them to have access to these
doors.
3-BetaSites must be connected to the B&D_DOORS echo and must poll
either FIDONet 1:3607/25 or DOORNet 75:7205/110 at least once a
week for echo mail and file updates. We will send you, on our
dime, any major releases, major bug-fixes, etc. Minor fixes will be
put on hold for you to pick up. In our opinion this is a very
small price to pay for being able to continually get free
registrations to what we believe are some of the better "fun" doors
around!
4-We will only allow one Node per FIDO Network and/or one Node per
DoorNet echo to become either a BetaSite or a Distribution Location
for the simple reason we want to make a couple of bucks off our
work and want our testers and distributors to have first crack at
them.
If, after reading all my bunk, you still desire to become a B&D
Software BetaSite and/or Distribution location then, please, fill out
the following form and send it to me, NetMail, at either the FIDONet
or the DOORNet address included in this text. We will make a
determination as soon as possible and will NetMail you our decision,
usually within 7-days.
Along with fun door games, we also produce utilities for Maximus-CBCS
and, although our current inventory is slim, we hope to become one
of the leaders in producing "fun to play" and "easy to use" BBS Door
games!
