  6.    Welcome to the Silver Xpress Mail System Version 5.03! The Silver Xpress
  7.    Mail System is a powerful, 7-year old, electronic mail system system
  8.    available for the growing BBS industry. Simply put, there is really
  9.    nothing like Silver Xpress in the BBS world!
  10.  
  11.    The Silver Xpress Off-Line Mail System has been the basis for many of
  12.    the features and functionality found in other off-line systems, and
  13.    Version 5.0x continues to set the standard with new technology and
  14.    features!  See the FEATURES.DOC to get a glance of what we have done to
  15.    define the off-line mail market.

  17.    To install Silver Xpress, type INSTALL.EXE at the DOS prompt.
  18.  
  19.    We designed Xpress for simple installation in mind.  It should only take
  20.    you a few minutes. You should never spend more than 1 hour installing
  21.    Silver Xpress.  If you get stuck somewhere, call our technical support
  22.    voice line at 305-248-3205 (EST 9am-9pm).   At the very least, please
  23.    read this "README" file completely and the ADDENDUM.DOC file before
  24.    seeking support.

  26.    If you wish to manually install or manually upgrade, please read the
  27.    INSTALL.DOC file.
  28.  
  29.    Even though it may seem very technical and detailed, installing Silver
  30.    Xpress is quite simple.  If you have a printer, we recommend you print
  31.    out the CHECKOFF.DOC file.  This file contains a list of things that you
  32.    should consider when installing and configuring Silver Xpress.

  34.    All sysops should browse the ADDENDUM.DOC, the HISTORY.503 file to see
  35.    if any last minute changes were made and to get a idea of the changes
  36.    since the last version.
  37.  
  38.    After the install process is completed, all you need to do or check the
  39.    following:
  40.  
  41.    1. Check XPRESS.BAT and copy it over to your BBS directory.  This is
  42.       your DOOR batch file for Xpress.  Edit it and make the appropriate
  43.       changes to call this batch file from your BBS.
  44.  
  45.       Sample batch files (utilities and menus for your BBS) are provided in
  46.       BBSTOOLS.ZIP file.  This is included for most of the models of Xpress.
  47.  
  48.       NOTE:  PCBOARD sysops do not need to do this.  The XPRESS file should
  49.       remain in the Xpress directory.  The install program will
  50.       automatically correct the directory in XPRESS and add the XPRESS
  51.       entry into the DOORS.LST file.
  52.  
  53.    2. Silver Xpress requires external utilities such as PKZIP, LHARC or
  54.       others to compress mail.  They must be callable from Xpress.  Make
  55.       sure they can be located by putting them in a PATH directory.  You
  56.       can copy them to the Xpress directory if you wish.

  58.    3. If you want to change menus or any of the display or help screens,
  59.       download the XEXT53.ZIP file.  This contains all the *.VCC files for
  60.       the MISC and HELP screens, and the XPMENU.CTL menu file, and the
  61.       XPLANG.CTL language files.
  62.  
  63.       NOTE: A complete French version of the display and language file is
  64.       available by downloading XFRENCH.ZIP from our BBS or from a local XDS
  65.       site. XCHINESE.ZIP is also available but it is not up-to-date with
  66.       the V5.03 layout.  XSPANISH.ZIP is expected to be completed by July
  67.       2, 1994.

  69.    4. If you do not want to use the RIP files, you can delete the *.RIP
  70.       files from the MISC directory.  If an user, using a RIP compatible
  71.       terminal, attempt to use RIP when you don't have the RIP files,
  72.       Xpress will disable RIP.
  73.  
  74.    5. A new "Silver Xpress Door Usage Guide for Users" was included in the
  75.       package. SXGUID01.ZIP (in XPSYS.ZIP which install will unzip for you).
  76.  
  77.       The Xpress Main Menu now has a new option to allow users to easily
  78.       download this file SXGUID01.ZIP or the unzipped file SXGUID01.TXT.
  79.  
  80.       It is assumed these files will be stored in the XPRESS directory.
  81.       Please make sure you unzip this file into the Xpress Directory. Keep
  82.       the original ZIP there too. The menu option will give the user the
  83.       choice to download the ZIP or the TXT file.
  84.  
  85.       If you want to move these files into a different location, i.e.,
  86.       into your FILE DIRECTORY where your off-line readers are located,
  87.       then you will need to modify the VCC script called DLGUIDE.VCC in
  88.       the MISC directory and recompile it with the VCC.EXE program. Do
  89.       not edit the DLGUIDE.XPV file.
  90.  
  91.       Note: Only the compiled VCC files are included in the 5.03 package.
  92.             See note 3.

  94.    That's it!  Except for RBBS, you can type XPMAIL -J to run Xpress in
  95.    local mode to test it out.  (-J will retrieve the FIRST user from the
  96.    BBS user database file).

  98.    When you are finished and you wish to explore Silver Xpress advance
  99.    features, download the mail door documentation SX500DOC.ZIP from our BBS
  100.    Xpress Technical Support Center file or your closest BBS which offers
  101.    the XDS system.
