PLAYBALL!
Windows 3.1 Commercial Program
MicroBase Inc.
800-897-3637
The new rage in computer programs is edutainment (an educational/entertainment
program). PlayBall! Version 2.0 is a program that provides plenty of both. It
is an easy to use reference tool to help improve your hitting, pitching,
managing and overall knowledge of baseball. PlayBall! achieves these goals
while maintaining an easy to read and visually pleasing environment. You will
find sound advice and an insider perspective from the program's technical
advisor, Alan Bannister, former White Sox shortstop and professional coach.
There are six main sections to explore in PlayBall!. Each offers a unique
outlook on America's favorite pastime.
The first section is called the Diamond. This section will familiarize you
with the diamond and all of the player positions. When you chose a player's
position, a description of the position appears. You will be given four
options to further explore:
Preparations - Here a player will discover how to prepare before the game.
Fundamentals - This will explain the fundamentals needed for the position.
Areas covered include stance, fielding, motions and positions for hitting.
Drills - This displays and discusses drills needed for the position.
Situations - This option explains what should be done in game situations.
The second section is called The Playbook. Here you will find sound guidance
on strategies and positioning for assorted plays. It covers plays from catching
a pop fly to base run downs. Information is displayed on what to do in these
situations, and what game factors must be observed by players.
The Rules of the Game section gives an overview of what is general to all
baseball leagues, and points out areas to be aware of. It covers such dynamics
as the dimension of the playing field, the equipment used, hitting, running
and pitching. The duties and responsibilities for managers, coaches and
umpires are outlined.
The Address Base section provides information on major league stadiums and
teams. It also have points of contacts for many other areas of baseball
interest, such as Minor and amateur league contacts, baseball camps, and even
has a section with numbers for baseball card collectors.
The Legendary Quotes section is the only area that lacks an easy to use
interface. You can only view one funny or famous quote at a time, without
specifying any preference for the types of quotes you would like to see. You
can not print or save any quotes and do not have the ability to browse the
quotes.
The last section is the Knowledge and Trivia game. Here is where you test your
knowledge of baseball rules and trivia. Designed for one or two players, you
must choose the difficulty level of your question. If you answer correctly
your runners advance, if incorrect the batter is out. Be warned, while your
knowledge of the game will surely increase, you could spend hours playing this
challenging game.
All text, except for quotes, and graphics in this program can easily be printed
or captured to disk. A reference feature is provided to allow quick access to
a particular area of interest.
PlayBall! provides a wealth of information. The detailed graphics and easy to
read text makes this program fun to use for baseball enthusiasts of all ages.
This is a useful tool for players, coaches, managers, umpires and fans alike.
If you have an interest in increasing your baseball knowledge, no matter what
your skill level is, this program is worth checking out.
