Instructions For Playing Space-Quest
Object : The object of Space-Quest is to dominate the universe by
having the best ship and having control of the most planets,
starbases and ports. Having control of these things entitles
you to profits and to freely beam up and down any items.
There are 3 KEY Planets that Strong players will want to
have control of. They are "CYGNUS X1", "CYGNUS X2", and
CYGNUS X3. If a player at anytime has control of all 3 of
these planets, and that player has an Imperial Class StarShip,
and manages to survive the night without being killed then that
player will have WON control of the Universe and will be added
to the Hall Of Fame.
There are Millions of locations in this universe and many
little tricks that might work to your advantage.
Good LUCK !!!!
Strategies : There are 4 basic types of players that evolve in this game.
1. Those who cruise through the universe and blow up everything
in sight.. (These players usually don't last long... their
phasors wear out and they are left defenseless).
2. Those who try to make profits from buying and selling.
(This is time consuming and it is hard to consistantly
make profits).
3. Those who try to gain control of everything they run accross.
(This might pay off if there aren't any other players who
will try to steal control from you).
4. Those who gain control of a few, well located entities and
fortify them to prevent others from stealing them.
(This is the best way to get on top and stay there).
A planet that has a large population and is sufficiently
staffed with guards and storm-troopers, will eventually
start producing many valuable items as well as revenue.
Tips :
It takes a long time to cruise from one end of the galaxy to
the other. So, setting up a HOME sector is a smart way to
insure that you can easily pick up items that your planets
produce. Try to take and maintain control of starbases, ports
and planets that are near your HOME sector.
(While You Are Onboard your ship......)
Note: After you get familiar with what options are available on
the different option menus, you can press '?' to toggle the
menus off and on.
Moving Your Ship :
<Main-Navigation Menu>
Use the number keys 1-9 to move your ship from location to
location. Moving right (6), will move you to the next numeric
location. Moving left (4), will move you to the previous
location. Moving up (8), will move you to your location-12.
Moving down (2), will move you to your location+12.
Moving out of the sector to the right will move you to
the next numeric sector, to the left will move you to the
previous numeric sector, Up = sector-10, down sector +10.
You can use the auto-pilot to automatically move you
through the sectors without having to contiuously press keys.
Pressing 'S' will jump you to the next sector quickly.
Pressing 'D' will jump you to the previous sector quickly.
Pressing 'H' (HyperJump) will jump you to a random galaxy
and sector.
Using Your Onboard Computer
<Computer Menu>
Your Onboard Computer can give you some valuable information.
It can scan the current galaxy ... <Galaxy Scan>
It can scan the current Sector ... <Sector Scan>
It can scan the current Vessel on screen ... <Vessel Scan>
It can scan the current Planet on screen ... <Planet Scan>
Also it can give you a list of which planets, ships, ports,
and starbases that you own as well as a list of your current
on board inventory <Inventory>.
Using Your Transporter
<Transporter Menu>
* Your Transporter is one of your most valuable tools.
Use it carefully. if you mindlessly use it up, trying to
beam up Guards and Storm-troopers from entities that you
do not have contol of, you eventually will lose use of it
for the times when you really need it.
* Your transporters power is measured by class and percent.
A class 4 transporter has the power to move objects from
one sector to another, which can be beneficial to those wanting
to keep their possessions close to a home sector. The higher
Class transporters have better chances of successfully beaming
up (stealing) from planets, ports, and starbases that you don't
own.
* All classes of transporters can beam you from your ship to
another ship that is currently on screen. Be careful, you
could beam your self onto a ship that has a weak or destroyed
transporter and you will not be able to get back to your
previous ship.
Using Weapons
<Weapons Menu>
Locking on target will aid your phasors and photons in doing
more damage to the things you fire at.
Firing Phasors and Firing Photons is self explanatory.
If you want to lower or raise your shields, it is done from
this menu. Also to lauch a mine or ship seeker or a probe,
the weapons menu is the place to do from.
* Mines are used to protect sector locations from intruders.
they are very good at discouraging other players from approaching.
Mines recognize their owners and will NOT BLOW UP in the presence
of their owner or if they are alliance mines, a member of the
alliance they belong to.
* Ship Seekers work just like mines, but they have the capabilies
to seek and destroy invading ships.
* Probes can do no damage, but they do serve as markers and can
serve as a place to leave messages, and receive reports of
Questors who have encountered it.
Using Communications
<Communications Menu>
Messages can be left as General anouncements or can be sent
to a particular player or can be left (leave message) at
starbases, planets, ships, ports or even at probes.
A player can read the messages left at thes places by simply
opening the hailing frequencies when the object appears on
screen.
<Inventory Items>
Crew Members : You need to have a few of these on board
your ship, but their main purpose is to populate the
planets that you run production on.. the more crew members,
the more production.
Storm Troopers : Use these to take over planets by going
up against the guards. Storm troopers are also used to
defend against Assassins.
Guards : Used to hold control of planets, ships, ports,
and starbases. They defend against storm trooper attacks.
Assassins : Used to take over planets, ships, ports, and
starbases, by killing the leader ( maybe another player if
he's there). The Assassins have to Avoid all of the
Storm Troopers that are there.
<Inventory Items>
Fuel : If you run out of fuel, your ship won't move.
Don't worry, you will be given more fuel the next day.
Life Support : If You run out of this, YOU BLOW UP. Also
Life Support makes your starbases, ports and planets more
resistant to phasor attacks.
Nuclear Devastors : When Used these little devils kill about
half of personel in the sector. ( Ouch !!)
ShockWave : These are used to defend Planets, Ports, and
Starbases. They are the best defense against thieves.
Ukilmeudie Devices : These have no real function (not) and are
good commodities to buy and sell for profit.
Cloaking Devices : Use these to hide your ship so others can't
find you and destroy you.
Shields : You will want to keep some of these on your ship.
when taking hits, the shields go first and the life support
goes next.. so the more shields you have the better.
Space Coke : Use this to keep your planet's residents happy.
The planets tend to produce more if they have a lot of this.
Construction Kit : use these to create new Starbases, Ports
and Planets.
Credits : You can keep up to 64000 credits on your ship, but
it is just as accessable in your account, unless you want to
beam down some somewhere.
<Planet Production>
Once you get control of a Planet, You may choose to set up
production. By setting up production, You will be entitled to
reap the profits. Production Rates can be increased by increasing
the planet's population, life support and space cokes. Also
the more days that your planet has been producing, the more profits
it will produce.
Certain Valuable Items are produced under the different types of
production.
Military production yields :
Guards, Storm-Troopers, Photons, Nuclear devastators, shields
and Mines.
Commercial production yields :
Fuel, Crew Members, Life support, UkilmeUdie devices, cloaking
devices, and Spy Probes.
Industrial production yields :
Assassins, Fuel, Shields, Shockwaves, Space Cokes, and Ship Seekers.
<More>
There are much more details to discover and most of the fun is
finding the secret little tricks that work..
Good Luck.... don't get too greedy....
