  22. BORL), today announced the addition of the Borland PowerPack for DOS to 
  23. its line of object oriented software development tools. The Borland 
  24. PowerPack for DOS, a complete suite of DOS development tools and 
  25. libraries designed to work with Borland C++ 4.0, includes 16- and 32-bit 
  26. DOS Extenders, Turbo Vision 2.0, and a new 32-bit version of the Borland 
  27. Graphics Interface (BGI). The Borland PowerPack for DOS provides a 
  28. significant increase in capabilities for the thousands of software 
  29. developers that are developing and maintaining DOS applications. Unlike 
  30. some DOS Extenders, those included Borland PowerPack for DOS are 
  31. available to software developers royalty-free with the purchase of the 
  32. DOS PowerPack. 
  33. The Borland PowerPack for DOS provides support for DOS developers, and 
  34. software developers who are making the move from DOS to Microsoft 
  35. Windows. It includes 16- and 32-bit DOS Extenders that seamlessly 
  36. integrate into the Borland C++ 4.0 Integrated Development Environment 
  37. (IDE), and gives software developers the flexibility to continue their 
  38. DOS development, move their applications to Microsoft Windows, or 
  39. utilize the same code for applications running under both operating 
  40. systems. 
  41. "Most of our customers still develop or maintain DOS applications. This 
  42. product provides significant technology they have been requesting," said 
  43. Michael Hyman, Languages business unit manager at Borland. "As the 
  44. leader in 16- and 32-bit DOS and Windows C and C++ development, our goal 
  45. is to make the deployment of powerful DOS and Windows applications cost-
  46. effective and easy." 
  47. The Borland PowerPack for DOS also provides significant benefits to 
  48. software developers who maintain or are creating new DOS programs 
  49. including DOS Extenders that break through the DOS 640K memory 
  50. restriction, enabling the development of faster, more stable 16-and 32-
  51. bit DOS applications.

  53. enables our applications to access Microsoft Windows DLLs (Dynamic Link 
  54. Libraries) for use in DOS applications, as well as helping us expand our

  61. Borland PowerPack for DOS Features 
  62.      16 and 32-bit DOS DPMI Extenders break through the 640K DOS memory 
  63. barrier, increasing the amount of DOS addressable memory to 4 Gigabytes 
  64. (4096 Mb). This makes applications easier to develop and safer to use. 
  65.      Borland's DOS DLL technology allows developers to interchange code 
  66. between 16-bit DOS and 16-bit MicrosoftWindows, and 32-bit DOS and 32-
  67. bit MicrosoftWindows. This allows greater shareability and portability 
  68. of applications for developers who need to target DOS and Microsoft 
  69. Windows. 
  70.      The Virtual Memory Manager allows applications to access more 
  71. memory than is available on a computer by invisibly storing data to disk 
  72. when memory is full. 
  73.      With the purchase of the Borland DOS PowerPack, all of the added 
  74. functionality of 16- and 32-bit DOS Extenders may be included in 
  75. software developed with Borland C++ 4.0 free of additional royalty or 
  76. runtime fees.

  84. 90 days at a special introductory price of $99.95, and holds a suggested 
  85. retail price of $499. All prices are in U.S. dollars and apply only to 
  86. the U.S. and Canada.
