----------------------------
INTRODUCTION
----------------------------
I have joined a few rather large networks in the past and setting up
20-50 message bases tended to become a very tedious job. MbEdit will
surely cut the time it takes to setup multiple bases in half via Global
options which allows changes to be made to ranges of bases as well as
Adding or Deleting up to 100 Bases at a time.
----------------------------
OPERATION
----------------------------
MbEdit can be run anywhere as long as you have the BBS= environment set.
If you do not it MUST be run in your bbs directory.
Operation is simple. Just run MBEDIT.EXE from your command prompt and you
will be taken into the editor. Most of the commands are similar to
Telegards internal editor, save a few. The Global editing is pretty self
explanatory if you have used TGs internal base editor. If you have not I
would suggest you read the documents for Telegard which can explain in
detail what each option means and does.
DESCRIPTION (GLOBAL)
Something that may be different is the (D)escription change in the global
editor. Usage of this works pretty much the same as the search and
replace option while editing messages. In the first input you may enter
the test to be replaced. This can be plain or MCI color coded text. Next
you will be prompted for the new text. MbEdit will search the specified
bases for the search text and if it is found it will be replaced by the
replace text.
----------------------------
NEW FEATURES
----------------------------
New features are as follows:
1. Added global base Filename changes. With this feature you can do a
global change of base filenames. This can come in handy when
joining a new network which has the same areatag prefix, for example
Telenet Canada = "TNC_". You can then edit the filename for each
base to match the areatag without having to type "TNC_".
2. You can now to shell to shell to DOS from anywhere in MBEDIT by
pressing ALT-J or ALT-F4.
3. Added (S)ort option. With this feature you can sort all or a range
of bases into alphabetical order based on the base description.
4. Added (R)ange option. With this option you can isolate a range of
bases to work on and only those bases will be displayed in the base
display.
5. Prompts for deletion of .BRD/.MIX and message paths.
6. Added /SAVE parameter option. This will cause MbEdit to prompt to
save any changes made to the Message Bases and User Info before
exiting.
----------------------------
FBEDIT
----------------------------
In the MbEdit archive you will find a file called FBEDIT.EXE. This
is MbEdit's brother program FbEdit, the Advanced File Base Editor.
This program works much the same as MbEdit and allows for the same
flexibility with your file bases.
FbEdit will NOT work unless you register MbEdit. For more info on
registration see the REGISTRATION section and REGEDIT.DOC.
