MacroBBS 3.0 - (C)Copyright 1992,94 by Jeff Oberlee - All Rights Reserved

* Upgrade *
* * * * * *
Upgrading to MacroBBS 3.0 is possible only by following these
instructions. There are some new files in the archive as well as
upgraded "carry-over" files. All of the .MAC files from previous
versions of MacroBBS must be replaced by the new files. I do NOT
suggest overwriting any of the ASCII/ANSI files you've customized, as
these files mill continue to be used as before. (No changes were made
to the ASCII/ANSI handler.)
Step 1: Place the file MBBS.ZIP in your {COMMO} disk directory and type:
PKUNZIP -d MBBS.ZIP <press ENTER>
This will create some new NECESSARY sub-directories and extract the
files. It will ask you if you want to overwrite existing files. Answer
YES to all of the .MAC files, and to any other files you want
overwritten. Your MBXPRO-*.MACs and MBDOOR-*.MACs will need to be
re-configured via the MacroBBS config module due to changes in {COMMO} 6.0
macroFile handling.
Also, if you'd like to use the .QWK message packer, unzip the included
MBBSQWK.ZIP archive into the same directory MacroBBS occupies.
Step 2: A new directory (\{COMMO}\MSGS\PACKTAGS) will now be used to
contain all of the users' MsgPacker tag files. If you are upgrading
from MacroBBS 2.6, you will need to move all files in your
\{COMMO}\READER\TAGS directory to the new \{COMMO}\MSGS\PACKTAGS
directory. The "\{COMMO}\READER\TAGS" directory will no longer be used
by MacroBBS.
Step 3: Type:
MBCFG <press ENTER>
or
MBBS <press ENTER>
Either batch file will get you into the MacroBBS config module. (MBBS.BAT
gets you there only because you need to make a few configuration changes
before MacroBBS will boot; this file will, under normal circumstances, boot
MacroBBS. MBCFG goes straight to the config module.) Go through config
sections 1, 2, and 3 AT LEAST. There are a few new options. If you use
external protocols and/or doors, your MBXPRO-*.MACs and MBDOOR-*.MACs will
need to be re-written by the config module due to changes in {COMMO} 6.0
macroFile handling. All of your protocol/door information can stay the
same; these files merely need to be brought up-to-date. When you've had
enough, save and exit to the BBS.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT NOTE: MacroBBS will crash if you do not run your MBXPRO-*.MACs
and MBDOOR-*.MACs through the MacroBBS 3.0 configuration module. {COMMO}
6.0 has a new way of macrofile switching that is not compatible with older
versions of {COMMO}. Edit these files via MacroBBS's configuration module
options 4 and 5 (external protocol and door configurations).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 4: Next, all of your message areas need to be updated. This can
be accomplished by editing each message area with MacroBBS's "Edit
Message Area" option from the offline Master SysMenu (offline option 5).
You don't actually need to change anything-- the message areas merely
need to be re-saved by MacroBBS 3.0 so new .INF files will be created.
Step 5: Due to the File Base "face-lift," all of your filelists need
to be manually reformatted. (Believe me, it will be worth your time.)
You can do this by way of MacroBBS's offline Master SysMenu. Option 2
of the Master SysMenu will allow you to edit these filelists with
{COMMO}'s built-in ASCII editor. If you would rather use a different
editor, go for it! If, when you are finished, the file listings (by way
of MacroBBS's File Area list function) aren't in fall color, check to be
sure the filelists are correctly formatted.
The new filelist format is:
FILENAME.EXT <- This field continues the filename
Uploaded by: ... Upload ID: ... <- This line may be left blank
<description line #1> <- The first of (n) description lines
<description line #2> (45 characters per line max.)
<ONE (1) BLANK LINE> <- This blank line MUST Follow the
FILENAME.EXT last description line
Uploaded by: ... Upload ID: ...
<description line #1>
<description line #2>
<description line n>
<ONE (1) BLANK LINE>
etc ...
There is no limit to the number of description lines you have for a
file; they will all be displayed. However, when a caller uploads a
file, he/she will be limited to a five-line description.
As an example:

COMMO60.ZIP

{COMMO} 6.0 - High-performance terminal
program for DOS (also runs well in Windows
and OS/2). Now with multiple macro files
and phone files, new protocol macros, user-
defined keys, VT220 keyboard file, auto
Doorway support. Large macros now run much
faster. Many other improvements and
enhancements. {COMMO} is small, fast,
reliable and has features of programs many
times its size. Shareware.
-------------------------- End of file format example ---------------------
Step 6: If you would like to take part in MacroNET, please see the
file !WHATS.NEW for easy setup/configuration instructions.
** IMPORTANT NOTES **
** You MUST use {COMMO} version 6.0 or higher. If you haven't
registered {COMMO}, you won't be able to use the internal dial-node
features of MacroBBS 3.0.
** MacroBBS must always be started from the DOS command line. I
recommend using the included batch file, MBBS.BAT. MacroBBS will not run
properly if you try to load it from within {COMMO}.
