THE ULTIMATE ACTIVITY LOG CLEANER FOR WILDCAT SYSTEMS
Logger v3.9 copyright 1994 - J.C. Associates
WHAT IS LOGGER:
First of all.. we know that there are a number of good programs on the
shareware circuit that remove the SYSOP from the activity log. We've
tried some of them and they seem to do what they claim.
We just wanted something more versatile, something that would clean up
the log files better and something that would do this to more than one
node (activity.log).
Logger was born out of that need.
We do a great deal of logging on locally when we test new screens,
doors and other functions and didn't care for the way these logins
appeared in our system statistics. We wanted these local logins to
either go away before we ran the stats or wanted to be sneaky and
have them recorded as actual calls. LOGGER DOES THIS!!
Not only did we want to remove the SYSOP logins but wanted to be able
to remove other callers such as co-sysops. LOGGER DOES THIS!!
A friend (and WildCat SYSOP) mentioned that, on occasion, he would
like to remove all traces of calls by certain Security Profiles from
his Activity Logs. LOGGER DOES THIS!!
Since WildCat doesn't need the "Ready For Calls" statements, a clean
log should be devoid of these also. LOGGER DOES THIS!!
If you don't want your Activity Logs cluttered with Events and
Illegal Login Attempts. LOGGER GETS RID OF THESE TOO!!
Most of the SYSOP removal programs we tried accessed only one
Activity Log. We wanted to be able to do all the log files
with one command or limit Logger's action to just one pre-
selected log. LOGGER DOES THIS!!
If you use Wildcat's FAX server then Logger will rid your
activity logs of all those lines that WCFax creates.
Logger also has an option to let you keep backups of all your logs
in their original condition. Run Logger as many time as you wish
because Logger creates sequential Time/Date stamped Backup Files.
Don't want to clutter your WC30 directory with more programs or
backup files... No Problem!! Unlike many add on utilities for
Wildcat, Logger does not have to be in the "home" directory. In
fact, if you're going to keep backups we suggest that you run
logger from it's own directory and let the backup file accumulate
there.
HOW TO RUN IT:
LOGGER.EXE, LOGSET.EXE and LOGGER.CFG must all reside in
the same directory.
Both LOGGER and LOGSET are executable "command line" utilities.
They can be invoked by typing their names at the prompt will in
the directory in which they reside or from any prompt is you have
placed them in a directory which is in your DOS path.
Depending on the quantity and size of you logs... you may even chose
to include LOGGER in your POSTCALL.BAT.
Once set... Logger will scan and clean all your Activity Logs in the
manner you choose. Even if you've "killed" a couple of the logs..
Logger will keep on going until all logs (up to 999) have been
"cleaned" the way you want them.
SETTING UP:
You must first run LOGSET to establish your cleaning parameters.
The TEST COPY of logger is limited but all fields appear the same as
the do in the Registered Version.
The setup should be pretty obvious but we'll try to explain a couple
of things....
Hitting the Return (or Enter) key on any field accepts the data already
in that field and advances you to the next field.
Overwrite existing data in a text filed simply by entering new data
followed by a return or by entering a Y or N in a single character field.
Delete data in a text field by hitting the space bar.
What could possibly be easier???
In case you're wondering... entering a "Y" in the Misc. field causes
Logger to remove all Ready For Call statements as well as "Illegal
Login Attempts", "Connection Denied", etc.
If you enter a "Y" in regards to Local Logins... you will then be
prompted for a five digit baud rate (without commas). Logger will
then convert all local logins to "remote" calls at that baud.
PLEASE NOTE: "Names" and "Security Codes" marked for deletion have
priority over the Local Conversion. For example: if you have indicated
that you want "John Smith" removed and "John Smith" has also logged in
locally... records of "John Smith" will be removed rather than converted.
When entering a "Security Profile" enter the name of that profile ONLY
and do not include "[]" brackets.
CAVEAT:
Although Logger has been thoroughly tested, it would have been
impossible to us to create every variety and sequence of Activity
Log entry (for test purposes). If you find a "bug" or have suggestions
for the next release... please let us know.
