*********** GENERAL INFORMATION ************
This file is to inform you of our first and newest demo: LightShade.
This demo was actually made in 11 days and 6 hours total and has the
following features:
- 486 or 386/387 required, preferably at 33 MHz and up
- VGA
- GUS 512Kb only (maybe other cards in newer versions)
- Startup parameters to start the demo
- Harddisk installation required
********** HOW TO INSTALL / RUN ***********
You probably got this demo with the following files:
LISH.ZIP = the demo and all demo data
LISH.NFO = this file
DVISION!.NFO = what we do and don't
to install LightShade, copy these files to a directory on your harddisk and
unzip LISH.ZIP. Now you can type:
LISH
and the demo should start with a message concerning the GUS I/O address.
If you don't have a GUS, don't worry, just select one, it doesn't matter. If
you have SB, don't select your SB I/O address, because your SB might make
strange noises (I don't know what's going to happen really, haven't tested
that). It is wise to give LightShade all your memory, to avoid hangups and
'Error loading ...' messages. LightShade needs about 512Kb of free main RAM.
To start LightShade at a different point than the beginning, type:
LISH <number>
where number is one of the following:
0 = start from the DoomPlasma part (same as no parameters)
1 = start from the CrazyLogo part
2 = start from the StarField part
3 = start from the CrossFader part
4 = start from the "LightShade" part (titles etc.)
LightShade has no demo-looping option (atleast not yet).
when you press a key during the demo, it will finish the current event and
quit to DOS.
*********** TROUBLESHOOTING ************
Here is a list of things that could go wrong (as far as we tested it) with
the appropriate solution:
P: I get "Error loading ..." messages.
S: You don't have all the data for the demo or you don't have enough free
memory. Try freeing some of the TSR's from memory (review your
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS). For more information on how to do this,
read your DOS-manual.
P: One part of the demo goes on too long and the music doesn't fit the
demo anymore.
S: This could be several things:
- you don't have a fast enough computer
- you have a very fragmented or very slow harddisk
Try unfragmenting your harddisk (COMPRESS) or use a disk cache like
SmartDrive. If that doesn't work, wait for a newer version or buy a
faster computer.
P: The CrossFading images sometimes flash.
S: This is a problem we haven't quite figured out yet. Faster computers
with fast VGA cards don't have the problem, but slow computers tend to
do this. We will try to fix this in a newer version.
P: I hear nothing / nothing but UltraClicks.
S: Either you're someone making making fun of us or you have found a bug
we couldn't find. It seems some GUSses are different then others.
Notify us about this and tell us exactly what your configuration is
and what your TSR's are so we can pinpoint the problem for the newer
versions. For information on how to contact us, read the DVISION!.NFO
file.
P: I get a "math coprocessor required" message (or something similar).
S: This demo was programmed entirely in C (with many BASM routines) using
a 486 with it's built-in coprocessor. This is no error, it just means
that you have to wait for a newer version (we had 11 days).
Hope you like(d) it,
CU.
