Welcome to
L I F E A N D D E A T H ! !
The pretense of this game is quite simple.... you are a doctor. But
not just ANY doctor, you are the one they call when there's a Life and
Death situation!
Playing the game however, is not all cut and dried. During game play,
you will be taken from patient to patient. Upon arriving at your
patient's location, you will be shown your patient's chart. This chart
will tell you who you are treating, their age, sex, height, weight and
a list of their symptoms/ailments. DO NOT take ANY of this information
for granted! (With the exception of their name of course!) Read each
chart carefully and completely. Your patient is counting on you to
know their case in and out, so you can make the best possible
diagnosis and save their life!
After reading your patient's chart, you will be taken to a menu which
displays 12 medical procedures. All 12 procedures are available for
your use during your diagnosis. But, naturally, not ALL of the choices
are GOOD choices! Your choices need to be made carefully, based on the
information you recieved while reading your patient's chart. For
instance, someone complaining of severe headaches would most likely
NOT require a rectal exam!! A brain scan? Maybe.... that depends on
the REST of their symptoms! For each patient, 3 of the 12 available
procedures are correct choices. The other 9 are poor choices. The
menu also contains a 13th choice which will allow you to go back and
check your patients chart again. This can be very useful! Hopefully
you will never need the 14th choice.... QUIT!
You will be able to use a maximum of 5 procedures on each patient. In
order to save your patient's life, 3 of your five choices must be
correct ones. Even if the other 2 are poor choices, your patient will
still survive. If however you make 3 poor choices, it's curtains! Just
a note: As SOON as 3 bad choices are made, your patient has had it,
whether you have completed all 5 procedures or not. And of course...
if/when 3 good choices are made, you will immediately be congratulated.
The scoring for the game is configured completely by your sysop.
Following these instructions will be a screen which will tell you how
many points your sysop has choosen to give you for saving a patient,
and how many points they have choosen to take from you should you lose
a patient. Your sysop makes one other key decision as well... how many
patients you are allowed to kill in one day!
After completing your daily rounds, you will then be able to see how
you, (and everyone else) has been doing. You will first be asked if you
wish to see the current SAVED/KILLED list. This is a tally for every
player in the game of patients saved or killed. The list is updated
while you play so you can see your current plays results immediately.
You will then be asked if you would like to see the high scores. This
is a list of the top ten players in the game and their scores. The game
keeps the score on an incremental basis... which means it will add or
subtract your current score from any previous score you had. This has
been changed from previous versions which only changed your score if it
was HIGHER than your previous score, and did not increment it. (Due to
popular demand I might ad!) The score file is also updated immediately.
That's all you should need to know! So.... Good Luck Doctor!
