  1.    Welcome to Inventory Manager 4.0. This program is designed to handle very
  2. simple jobs at keeping track of an inventory. It can't do graphics or anything
  3. very sophisticated, but it does have its advantages over more powerful ones.
  4.    For instance, on most databases and inventory trackers, you would have to
  5. call up Windows and wait an hour for the program to load. Here you need only
  6. to type 'IMANAGER' from your IMANAGER directory.
  7.    Another advantage to this program is space. With a size under 60K, it will
  8. fit on even the smallest floppies and other storage devices. Each record also
  9. takes up very little space (about 350K).
  10.    The last advantage I will list here is expandability. Now, guess how many
  11. records you can store with this program. Just guess. Well, I'll give you a
  12. hint. If you completely used up the capacity of this system, you'd have a
  13. hard drive capable of storing OVER ONE MILLION MEGABYTES!!!

  15.    Okay. Let's learn ya this here program. The basic principles involved are
  16. that each record consists of six fields: item description, manufacturer,
  17. model number, serial number, date of purchase, and miscellaneous. When these
  18. fields are put together, they form a record.
  19.    This system operates on units of records called sets. Each set can have as
  20. many records as you see fit to put on it. Putting too many records on one 
  21. set, though, can make disk reads slow, especially on floppies. Each set has
  22. two user-defined characteristics, name and password. Passwords are optional
  23. on all sets, and will provide complete security of that set's records.
  24. However, once the password is entered, that will be the last time you see the
  25. computer display the password. From that time on, further access to that set
  26. is permitted only by means of the password.
  27.    Now, some of you out there who use this file are going to be creative.
  28. You're going to say, "My, I wonder what if I delete set files from DOS?"
  29. Well, I'm gonna tell ya right now, boy. It ain't smart. In the event someone
  30. does tamper with the files themselves, though, I have given this program an
  31. error-trapping routine which is run every time the program is started. (By
  32. the way, this will flash the first time you start the program.)
