  17.          One of the advantages of using GolfLog is that Golfers can
  18.          not only keep statistical data on all their golf games, but
  19.          also know the status of their Handicap Index after each
  20.          game is recorded.  By knowing this, and being able to take a
  21.          look at the stats provided by GolfLog, the Golfer is able to
  22.          know the progress of his/her game on a daily basis.

  32.          As it stands now, it is believed that GolfLog takes into
  33.          consideration everything that is considered by the U.S.G.A.

  428.              ready to select a course and GolfLog finds that there's
  429.              no 18 hole courses in the database, it will flash a small

  432.              course from the PickList when there's 18 hole courses
  433.              available for selection.

  436.          5.. Changed the look of the PickList used when selecting a
  437.              Course for adding Game Records, editing Course Records,
  438.              reviewing Course Records, deleting Course Records, and
  439.              selecting a course to be used for Handicap Index purposes.
  440.              The line for each Course Record available will now show
  441.              the Course PAR, then Course name and finally, the city
  442.              and state where the course is located.

  445.          6.. Revised the "Print Game Record" so "high ASCII" characters
  446.              are not used when the Score Card is printed.  This was
  447.              causing some confusion with users who do not have the
  448.              correct DIP switches set on their printer allowing it
  449.              to print "high ASCII" characters.  If you wish to check
  450.              your printer, print the file "GOLFLOG.DOC" and if you
  451.              get a rectangular box around the word "GolfLog" on the
  452.              first page, you have the correct settings.  If you get
  453.              a crazy mixture of miscellaneous characters, you need to
  454.              refer to your printer instructions for details on how to
  455.              set the DIP switches for printing graphics and "high ASCII"
  456.              characters.

  499.          1.. Added the ability for registered users to use the U.S.G.A.'s
  500.              Equitable Stroke Control (started by the U.S.G.A. in 1993).
  501.              The "ESC" sets a maximum number that a Golfer can post on
  502.              any hole depending on the Golfer's Course Handicap.  For
  503.              Handicapping purposes, you are required to adjust your
  504.              hole scores (actual or probable) when they are higher than
  505.              the maximum number you can post (see list below).  There is
  506.              NO LIMIT on the number of holes on which you can adjust your
  507.              score.
  508.  
  509.              The registered user has the option of using "ESC" on a
  510.              selective basis.  This can be done when adding a new Golfer
  511.              to the database or by editing the records of Golfers who are
  512.              already in the database.  NOTE that before "ESC" can be
  513.              activated, the Golfer must have an established Handicap
  514.              Index.
  515.  
  516.              "ESC" is applied ONLY on 18 hole games.  9 hole games
  517.              are not used when computing a Golfer's Handicap Index
  518.              and therefore "ESC" will not be applied to these games.

  532.              If you have "ESC" turned ON for a Golfer, GolfLog will
  533.              automagically determine the maximum hole score that can be
  534.              posted for that Golfer and adjust the score (ONLY if it's
  535.              over the maximum number per the above list) when the game
  536.              is being entered into the database.

  538.              If you decide that you do not want to use "ESC" then you
  539.              must edit the Golfer's record and turn it OFF.  It should
  540.              be understood that for a Golfer's Handicap Index to be
  541.              accurate, "ESC" should be turned ON after his/her first
  542.              Handicap Index is established.  When you have GolfLog
  543.              determine the Handicap Index and the result is "0" (meaning
  544.              the Golfer is a "scratch" Golfer), then "ESC" is turned ON
  545.              by GolfLog and remains there until it is turned OFF by the
  546.              user.

  548.              NOTE that by using "ESC", the Handicap Index established
  549.              by GolfLog will be more accurate than without it, and even
  550.              closer to the "official" Index established by the U.S.G.A.
  551.  
  552.              For more details about Equitable Stroke Control, contact
  553.              your local PGA Professional, Club Pro/Manager, or your
  554.              state Golf Association.
  555.

  557.          2.. Added the option to edit a Course Record.  With the exception
  558.              of the Course name, all other fields in the record can be
  559.              edited.  When this screen appears, it will show the current
  560.              value of each field.  To leave the value as is, press the
  561.              <Enter> Key without entering anything.  To change a value,
  562.              type over the information shown and press <Enter>.  If you
  563.              need to change the Course name, then you must delete the
  564.              Course Record and re-enter it under the new name using the
  565.              "Add Course Record" at the Main Menu.

  568.          3.. Revised the Utility Menu to include the option to edit a
  569.              Course Record.  Other minor cosmetic changes to this menu
  570.              were also made.

  573.          4.. When only one Golfer and/or one Course Record is in the
  574.              database, the user will no longer be asked to select the
  575.              Golfer and/or Course.  These will be automatically assumed
  576.              since, in actuality, there's no choice to be made. The only
  577.              time the user will be asked to select when only one record
  578.              is present, is when the user has selected an option to DELETE
  579.              that record.  This is to give the user one last chance to
  580.              back out before the record is removed from the database.
  581.              To backout at the last minute, the user can press <Escape>
  582.              when the "picklist" appears on screen showing the list of
  583.              records available.

  586.          5.. Removed the 286 version of the executable file (GOLF_286.COM)
  587.              from the archive.  This will make the size of the archive
  588.              much smaller.  Users running a 286 machine will have to use
  589.              the XT version (GOLFLOG.COM) since it now runs as fast as the
  590.              old 286 version.  Registered users may request, and receive
  591.              at no charge, a copy of GolfLog optimized for 286 AT machines
  592.              if desired.  NOTE also that the "XT" version will run on
  593.              everything from an "XT" up to the latest model computer,
  594.              provided of course that it is 100% IBM compatible.

  597.          6.. Recoded the printer routines for both the "Print Game Record"
  598.              and "Print Summary" Options.  Users should notice a speed
  599.              improvement from the time the Golfer and/or Game Record
  600.              is selected to the time printing actually begins.  Users
  601.              should understand also that as Game Records build up in the
  602.              database, the longer it will take for all the information to
  603.              be gathered and compiled.  NOTE also that printer buffers have
  604.              a lot to do with speed.  The larger the buffer, the faster
  605.              the printing will be.  Also, GolfLog now checks the printer
  606.              port immediately after either of these two options are
  607.              selected.  If the port number does not match the one found
  608.              in the configuration file or the port is not active, GolfLog
  609.              will honk at you and flash a message box on screen to advise
  610.              that the printer did not answer the door when GolfLog knocked.

  662.          While GolfLog attempts to be as accurate as possible when
  663.          arriving at a Golfer's Handicap Index and Course Handicap, it
  664.          in no way intends for the Golfer to use the figures obtained
  665.          as his/her "official" Handicap Index and Course Handicap.
  666.          Only the figures provided by the U.S.G.A. should be used when
  667.          a Golfer is entering Tournaments and being flighted based on
  668.          his/her Handicap Index.  To obtain an official Handicap Index
  669.          contact your local PGA Pro, Club Pro/Manager or your state
  670.          Golf Association.

  672.          GolfLog will run best if you run the proper version according
  673.          to the type machine you have.  If you have a 386 or 486 machine
  674.          then always run the 386 version (GOLF_386.COM) rather than the
  675.          XT version.  Also, it's a lot easier to select the version you
  676.          plan to use then rename that copy to GOLFLOG.COM using the
  677.          DOS "RENAME" command as in "RENAME GOLF_386.COM GOLFLOG.COM"
