GetFAQs installation quick guide.
Preperation:
============
Make sure you have a disk with preferable LOTS of free space. If you are
low on space, check out the manual under the LOWSPACE option.
Install a cache if possible. GetFAQs is very disk-intentsive and isn't one
of the fastest programs anyhow due to a lot of searching and reading. A cache
makes a BIG difference.
STEP 1: GETFAQS.CFG
==========================================================================
Grab you favourite editor and load the GetFAQs.CFG file.
FAQPATH = "E:\UUCP\NEWS\NEWS\ANSWERS\";
Put here the path to the USENET directory with RAW FAQ files.
TMPPATH = "E:\UUCP\GETFAQS\TMP\";
Put here the path to a subdirectory where GetFAQs can make
temp. sub-sub directories for collecting the parts of a FAQ.
OUTPATH = "E:\FAQS\";
Put here the path to the directory where the resulting
compressed files should be stored.
COMPRESS = "PKZIP.EXE -a";
Put here the name and parameters for your favourite compressor.
The program should be in the PATH for GetFAQs to find it. Don't
MOVE files into an archive, just add them.
OKRESULT = 0;
If you compressor returns something else than a 0 for success,
put here the success value.
Leave all the other option alone for the moment. The defaults are ok.
STEP 2: EXTRACT.LST
==========================================================================
Load the EXTRACT.LST file. In this file you will find a long list with
possible FAQ files. All known but ignored for the moment. (The ! marks
them as the be ignored) Remove the exclamationmark for every FAQ you want
to be extracted. If the FAQ you want is not there, don't worry. One day
it passes by and it will end up in the UNKNOWN.LOG file.
That's it. Just run GETFAQS.EXE and enjoy.
