NEW YORK, JUNE 5, 1852
A few days ago a powerful blast was made in the rock at Meeting House Hill,
in Dorchester, a few rods south of Rev. Mr. Hall's meeting house. The blast
threw out an immense mass of rock, some of the pieces weighing several tons
and scattered small fragments in all directions. Among them was picked up a
metallic vessel in two parts, rent assunder by the explosion. On putting
the two parts together it formed a bell-shaped vessel, 4 1/2 inches high, 6
1/2 inches at the base, 2 1/2 inches at the top, and about an eighth of an
inch in thickness. The body of this vessel resembles zinc in color, or a
composition metal, in which there is a considerable portion of silver. On
the sides there are six figures of a flower, or bouguet, beautifully inlaid
with pure silver. On the sides there are six figures of a flower or
bouquet, beautifully inlaid with pure silver.... This curious and unknown
vessel was blown out of the solid pudding stone, fifteen feet below the
surface. It is now in the possession of Mr. John Kettell... He has taken a
drawing and accurate dimensions of it, to be submitted to the scientific.
There is no doubt but that this curiousity was blown out of the rock, as
above stated; but will Professor Agassiz, or some other scientific man
please to tell us how it came there?....
SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN Volume V II. NEW YORK, JUNE 5, 1852 (NUMBER 38)
"In my search for the secret of life, I
ended up with atoms and electrons, which
have no life at all. Somewhere along the

"We can admittedly find nothing in
physics or chemistry that has even a
remote bearing on consciousness. Yet all
of us know that there is such a thing as
consciousness simply because we have it
ourselves. Hence consciousness must be
part of nature, or, more generally, of
reality, which means that quite apart
fromthe laws of physics and chemistry,
as laid down in quantum theory, we must
also consider laws of quite a different
kind." NIELS BOHR 1922 NOBEL LAUREATE,
PHYSICS.
Let us begin by committing ourselves to

In 1913 Dr. Hans Reck found a modern
skeleton in the 500,000 year-od bed of
two of Olduvai Gorge in Africa.
Scientists now say it was origianlly
buried from a recent land surface in a
higher bed. But would primitive
gravediggers have penetrated the hard
limestone layer that existed between bed
2 and 5? The skull was placed in a
Brazilian museum but later mysteriously
disappeared...
-ORIGINS MAGAZINE
(The Record of the Rocks)
The bodies of organisms are complex
systems of interacting parts. To change
one species into another is not just a
simple matter of gradual remolding, as
a sculptor might remodel clay skulls.
Rather, it is likely to involve many
distinct, coordinated steps, as we see
when confronted with the task of
changing one electrical circuit into
another. This creates doubts about the
possibility of evolution by gradual
transformation...
- ORIGINS SCIENCE MAGAZINE.
Contradicting the standard picture of
human evolution over the past 2.5
million years, many fossils show the
presence of modern man throughout this
span of time in various levels of rock.
This raises the question of whether or
not the fossil record actually points to
evolution.

Two friends met on the street after not
having seen each other for some time.
One of them was using crutches.
"Hello!" said the other man. "What's
the matter with you?"
"Street-car accident," said the man on
crutches.
"When did that happen?"
"Oh, about six weeks ago."
"And you still have to use crutches?"
"Well, my doctor says I could get along
without them, but my lawyer says I
can't."
"I shall have to give you ten days or
$20," said the judge.
"I'll take the $20, Judge," said the
prisoner.
A lawyer was cross-examining a witness.
He asked: "And you say you called Mrs.
Jones on May 2nd? Now will you tell the
jury just what she said?"
"I object to that question!"
interrupted the lawyer on the other
side.
There was nearly an hour's argument
between counsel, and finally the judge
allowed the question. "And as I was
saying," the first lawyer began again,
"on May 2nd you called on Mrs. Jones.
Now what did she say?"
"Nothing," replied the witness. "She
was not at home."
Judge - "What is this man charged
with?"èOfficer - "Intoxication, your honor."
Prisoner - "Judge, I'm as sober as you
are this minute."
Judge - "Pleads guilty - 10 days! Next
Case!"
A couple of old codgers got into a
quarrel and landed before the local
magistrate. The loser, turning to his
opponent in a combative frame of mind,
cried: "I'll law you to the Circuit
Court."
"I'm willin'," said the other.
"An' I'll law you to the Supreme
Court."
"I'll be thar."
"An' I'll law you to hell!"
"My attorney'll be there," was the calm
reply.
"Haven't I seen you before?" asked the
judge, eyeing the tailor brought before
him.
"Maybe," replied the tailor. "So many
men owe me money I can't remember their
faces."
"You've been convicted fourteen times
of this offense - aren't you ashamed to
own to that?"
"No, your honor. I don't think one
ought to be ashamed of his convic-
tions."
"Well, what is the matter with your
husband?"
"I think, doctor, he is worrying about
money."
"Ah! I think I can relieve him of
that!"

A rich, stingy man once came to a
priest for advice. The priest took him
to the window, which looked out on the
street, and asked him, "What do you
see?" "People," answered the puzzled
stingy man. Then the priest tookhim
over by the mirror and asked, "Now what
do you see?" "Myself," answered the
bewildered rich man.
Then the priest explained his
meaning: Both the window and the
mirror are made of glass, except the
glass of the mirror has a veneer of
silver on it. When you look through
the plain glass you see people, but
if you cover it with silver, you
stop seeing others and see only
yourself.
