  17. If you are like most people in these modern times, the one thing that none
  18. of us can afford to loose is time.  Timing is everything in this computer
  19. oriented world we live in.  Show up for a job interview five minutes late
  20. and you may have lost your opportunity.  Call long distance a minute before
  21. evening rates start and you pay twice as much.  Trust your computers clock
  22. to stay on time..... you might as well just turn it off.

  24. Unfortunately the clocks in most computers drift worse than a cheap
  25. wrist watch.  The manufacturers just don't seem to think it's worth
  26. the added expense to put a decent clock in computers.  Sure there are
  27. add on hardware cards with their own clock that will help keep the
  28. time more accurate but they are expensive.

  30. Use CLKSYNCH on a regular basis however, and your computer will stay
  31. on time.  What CLKSYNCH does is call either of two known services which
  32. exist that output the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT for short).  GMT time
  33. is used because it is at 0 degrees longitude and is exactly half way
  34. around the earth from the International Date Line.  All time zones
  35. around the world are somewhere between 12 hours behind or 12 hours ahead
  36. of GMT at any given moment.  These two services provide (free of charge
  37. for the price of the phone call only) a 1200 baud modem output with
  38. the GMT time output once every second.  CLKSYNCH deciphers this output
  39. then adjusts your computers clock accordingly.

  41. Does using CLKSYNCH sound complicated ?   It isn't.  All you need is
  42. this program, your computer and a modem connected to a phone line.
  43. There is only one screen of options that you need to configure but
  44. on-line help and pick-lists are available through-out it.

  46. How much does it cost ?  Well, it's true, CLKSYNCH is NOT free.  But it
  47. comes at what I'd like to think as a very fair price of only $ 10.00
  48. for the postcard registration.  CLKSYNCH is "Shareware" which means you
  49. may try it for 30 days on your own, if you like it, send the registration
  50. money in, if you don't like it erase it off your system and you didn't
  51. have to pay for it.  That's why shareware is commonly referred to as
  52. "Try before you buy" software.

  54. Why did I write CLKSYNCH ?  Well, as the author of several shareware
  55. utilities and my involvment with several BBS's and organizations
  56. around the globe, time is critical to me.  The clock on my Wyse 386
  57. system looses 10-15 minutes a week and that's un-acceptable to me.
  58. I originally wrote CLKSYNCH in December of 1988 but I never released
  59. that version (1.00) to the public.  Only myself and some friends
  60. used it as it was not user friendly at all.  Over the years I've looked
  61. at several other programs people wrote to synchronize with the time
  62. services and all of them were missing something or another it seemed.

  64. OK, I like what I've read so far..... now what ?  If youv'e read
  65. this file this far, you are obviously interested in keeping your
  66. computer's clock accurate.  The on-line help should be sufficient
  67. for most users or you can read the CLKSYNCH.DOC file for information
  68. on configuring and using CLKSYNCH.
