the email lockup problems.

for upgrading.

{ DesqView }
Give BOB at least 450K of memory to run if not more.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Added new Program > WHATVER.EXE Just type "whatver" at you
c:\ prompt and it will tell you what version of BOB you have.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Added new Program > EDITOR.EXE. This is the Player Editor for
BOB. BOBSETUP has been recompiled without the player editor...
therefore BOBSETUP is solely for creating and changing CFG files.
Use the Editor with caution, you can messup a player's game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
[ WARNING!!!! ]
I nor ASware are NOT responsible for any loss of data or system
crashes! Run this Beta version at your own risk! I have only
encountered one error... it is explained below. If you decide to
run BOB multi-line, multi-player, make sure you have at least
4 megs of ram.
[ ICONS ]
Their HAS TO BE a directory call ICONS under your BOB directory.
( i.e C:\BOB\ICONS ) this is where all your BOB icons files
should be.. and nothing else.... no ZIP files should be in this
directory.
The BOBICONS.DAT file stay in BOB main directory not the
icon directory!
BOBMAINT.EXE is soley for rebuilding the BOBICONS.DAT file,
if it got trashed, or Ryan has added new icons to BOB. This
really only need be run if Ryan ask you to run it. All
BOBMAINT.EXE does is manage BOB's icons... that's it.
It will create a .DAT file... and ZIP up the ICONS for ya.
[ DROP FILE ] [ sorry this beat only supports DOOR.SYS ]
I have include my DOOR16.BAT.
If you are running Multi-Nide you need to pass the
node number of the command line. or you can pass the config file
name.
Example Node 3:
My DOOR16.RUN file from my c:\wc30\wcwork\node3
cd c:\wc30\doors\bob
BOB 3 ---------------------> BOB.EXE the game
cd\wc30
exit
[ BOBSETUP ]
You can change the SYSOP's name and BBS name... it will
beep at you, but do not worry about it. "Hey it's a Beta" :)
Now you should run the BOBSETUP.EXE program...and make sure
all that stuff is right... you guys should know by now what
I except in the setup programs, and if you don't, then use the
"F1" key for help.
That's about it.... Please let me know in as good a detail
a possible what's happening with BOB.... like errors and
whether users are playing it and like it. You can put
the file BOBOPN.RIP in one of you HELLO screen spots to
advertise that it is online.... if you do this make sure you
add the following icons to you IconUpDater Working Icons
Directory and re-run ICMAINT, so your users have the ICons
for this screen.
1FITE1.ICN
1FITE2.ICN
1FITE3.ICN
11WAR.ICN
22WAR.ICN
33WAR.ICN
44WAR.ICN
55WAR.ICN
SPARKL1.ICN
SPARKL2.ICN
WHICHD.ICN
Realize that you do not need to add all the BOB icons to you
IconUpDater ICONS file.... because, of course, BOB has its
own ICON Scanner built into it!
I guess last... if you do want to play it locally...
especially when a user is online playing it, you can logon
locally and play against him or with him...what ever.
Local logon...
You can login and play by logging on to
your BBS and play the door or you can
go to the BOB directory and type:
BOB /L
You can also logon locally as someone else:
BOB /L SOMEONE ELSE
The name you loggon as has to exactly match
their BBS name.
When you logon locally... you obviously can't see the RIP map
you would see calling from another computer with a RIP terminal
package... so there for I give you the actually world # and
coordinates... Y,X.... Y being the VRT and X being the HRZ.
It most cases this actually makes it easier on your to play,
except it alot hard to find cities..becasue you cannot see them.
[ REPLAY.EXE ]
This program will reset players to INACTIVE, meaning not
playing. This mainly comes in handy when the BOB Beta
locks up. You can run the BOBSETUP.EXE program and reset
a play to "0". But it faster to use this program REPLAY.EXE
to reset a player or all the players. See, if a player is
set to "1", actively playing, then if that player attempts
to enter the game, BOB will tell that player that he is already
playing. So... to reset a single player type the following
at you DOS prompt in BOB's mian directory...
c:\doors\bob:>REPLAY RYAN ANDERSEN
|___________|
|
|- Enter the Player's
full BBS name here.
To reset all players to INACTIVE type the following...
c:\doors\bob:>REPLAY ALL
So if you run a signlr node BBS, meaning only one player
can be playing at any given time, then you could enter
the above in your batch file to running BOB to insure that
all players are set to in active. If you do that you door
batch file might look like...
cd c:\wc30\doors\bob
BOB ---------------------> BOB.EXE the game
REPLAY ALL -----> Resets all players to INACTIVE
cd\wc30
exit
[ GAMESET.EXE ]
+-| And last, but most import run GAMESET.EXE the first time.
|
+-| But BOBSETUP should have ran this for you the first time.
After this BOB will auto reset when someone wins the game.
You can manually reset the game by running GAMESET.EXE
from BOB's home directory.
Well I think that's it.... but knowing me..I sure I forgot
something... so if something does not make sense or your need
help in anyway...please, please feel free to call me any time
up til 2am... at 513-860-9669...
I want to Thank YOU ahead time for all your help. I really,
really appreciate.... and I know Lee will have something to
add...<g>
Thanks guys,
Ryan
PS... Important... if you are going to run BOB multi-line,
multi-player, I would only cache your READS not WRITES when
using a DISK caching program.
If you use DOS's SMARTDRV load it a a "/C"
notes: Make sure You have an "ICONS" directory under your BOB dir.
Make sure You have a "MAIL" directory under your BOB dir.
Make sure You have all the icons unzipped the \bob\icons dir.
Make sure you read all of the above!
