  11.      Jesus anticipated the persecution his followers would face for their

  13. faith in him (|1Peter 3:14-17|). He knew well that the man who in a pagan,

  15. worldly, materialistic society exercised a life of faith in him would surely

  17. have to face scorn and persecution. ~W~IIt may be a commentary on the depth of

  19. contemporary "faith" that the majority of Christians sense little persection
  20.

  27. or pressure on them from non-faith elements~N.

  29.     Persecution or abuse as such is not a blessing, but the blessing comes
  30.  
  31. for Christians in their ~W~Isuffering for Christ~N (|Phillipians 1:29|). The

  33. blessedness holds only when one suffers in the service of Christ and right-
  34.  
  35. eousness and when the charges of evil doing are false.
  36.  
  37.      One may be opposed because he is wrong, wicked, or simply a disturber.
  38.  
  39. For those who, like the prophets (|2 Chronicles 24:21|;|36:15|;
  40.  
  41. |Jeremiah 2:30|;|26:20-23|;|1 Kings 18:4|;|19:10,14|), suffer for truth and
  42.  
  43. right, there is reward in heaven.

  55.     There is no assurance of vindication or reward among people now. The

  59. those who thus suffer are in a blessed condition. The assurance belongs to

  61. those who suffer for what must ultimately prevail.
