  88.           ***  NONLIN -- Nonlinear Regression Analysis Program  ***
  89.  
  90. Nonlin allows you to perform statistical regression analyses to estimate
  91. the values of parameters for linear, multivariate, polynomial, and
  92. general nonlinear functions.  The regression analysis determines the
  93. values of the parameters which cause the function to best fit the
  94. observed data that you provide.  Nonlin allows you to specify the form
  95. of the function whose parameters are being estimated using ordinary
  96. algebraic notation.  In addition to determining the parameter estimates,
  97. Nonlin can be directed to generate an output file with predicted values
  98. and residuals.  It can also plot the observed values and the estimated
  99. function and the residual values.  In addition to performing regression
  100. analysis, Nonlin can also be used to find the root (zero value point) or
  101. minimum absolute value of a nonlinear expression.
  102.  
  103. A "DEMO.BAT" file is included to run several example analyses.
  104.  
  105. There are two versions of the Nonlin program: shareware and registered.
  106. You are welcome to make copies of the shareware version of Nonlin and
  107. pass them on to friends or post this program on bulletin boards or
  108. distribute it via disk catalog services provided the entire Nonlin
  109. distribution is included in its original, unmodified form.

  111. As a shareware product, you are granted a no-cost, trial period of 30
  112. days during which you may evaluate Nonlin. If you find Nonlin to be
  113. useful, educational, and/or entertaining, and continue to use it beyond
  114. the 30 day trial period, you are required to compensate the author by
  115. sending the registration form printed in the REGISTER.DOC file with the
  116. appropriate registration fee to help cover the development and support
  117. of Nonlin.

  119. In return for registering, you will be authorized to continue using
  120. Nonlin beyond the trial period and you will receive a registered version
  121. of the program, a laser-printed, bound manual, and three months of
  122. support via telephone, mail, or CompuServe.  Your registration fee will
  123. be refunded if you encounter a serious bug that cannot be corrected.

  125. The registered version of Nonlin omits the shareware notification screen
  126. at the start of the run and does not require you to press a key to
  127. proceed with the analysis.  The registered version also includes the
  128. ability to print plots on HP LaserJet printers.

  130. Nonlin requires 512 KB of memory.  In order to use the opional PLOT
  131. command you must have a CGA, EGA, or VGA monitor.  An 80x87 numeric
  132. coprocessor greatly improves its execution speed, but is not required.

  144. To install Nonlin, copy the files into the directory of your choice. The
  145. registered version of Nonlin includes a file named NONLIN.LJF with the
  146. fonts needed for printing plots on HP LaserJet printers. If you do not
  147. plan to generated hard copy output for a LaserJet printer, you may
  148. delete the NONLIN.LJF file. If the NONLIN.FON and NONLIN.LJF files are
  149. not in your current directory, you must place a command of the following
  150. form in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to tell Nonlin where to look for its font
  151. files:
