  10. CopyQM now supports writing on up to twelve (!) destination drives.  You
  11. must have an EGA or VGA display card when more than six destination drives
  12. are being used.
  13.  
  14. In RECORD= mode, CopyQM now checks for a pre-existing file of the same name
  15. as the image file to be written.  If one exists, a prompt is issued, giving
  16. you the opportunity to exit CopyQM before overwriting the file.
  17.  
  18. The first master diskette in a session is prompted for with the message
  19. "Re-insert Master".  The second and succeeding masters are requested
  20. with the message "Insert Next Master".
  21.  
  22. We've made a couple of bug fixes related to multi-drive copying.  One is
  23. an out-and-out goof--the display didn't correctly show which drive in a
  24. multi-drive set was really writing.  The other is a subtle one and is
  25. concerned only with 1.2M and 360K drives used to make the same 360K
  26. copy--not a good idea, but supported at any rate.

  28. CopyQM Plus users will note that the drive speed test now adds one more
  29. digit of significance to the reported spin rate.

  32.              What's New in CopyQM 3.14

  35. If the BLIND option has not been specified and a non-DOS, non-Macintosh
  36. diskette is read, a prompt now appears allowing a change to BLIND copying
  37. mode.  However, you should be aware that the non-DOS error message can
  38. also appear when a DOS diskette is infected with a boot-sector virus,
  39. such as the "Stoned" virus.
  40.  
  41. Auto-sense for E-Ten Chinese-language display software has been removed
  42. due to conflicts with some ATI Technologies VGA display cards.    If a
  43. restricted character set is desired, the "7BIT" command-line option
  44. should be used.

  46.             What's New in CopyQM 3.13
  47.  
  48. CopyQM Plus now creates self-extracting image files directly, without
  49. the use of MAKESXD.  The SELFEXTRACT (abbreviated SELF) keyword, when
  50. used with RECORD, causes a self-extracting file to be recorded.     When
  51. self-extracting files are produced, about 40K of additional base RAM
  52. is required for operation.  In general, CopyQM requires a base RAM
  53. space of at least 350K for execution.  Of course, the more memory the
  54. better--i.e., faster--operation.
  55.  
  56. MAKESXD now does its work in a single pass, without any additional disk
  57. space required for temporary files.
  58.  
  59. BIOS support has been improved to accomodate a few less-IBM-conforming
  60. BIOS sets.
  61.  
  62. Code has been added to enabled interrupts at critical points.  We've seen
  63. some BIOS code that doesn't seem to re-enable interrupts after they've
  64. been disabled.
  65.  
  66. Support has been improved for 2.88M drives and controllers.  However,
  67. CopyQM requires that 2.88M drives be jumpered for auto media-sensing
  68. to work with the DIRECT diskette controller access modes.  If your
  69. 2.88M drives are not not jumpered in this manner, you can either reset
  70. the jumpers or use BIOS access.

  72. The SCANDISK utility in MS-DOS 6.2 sometimes reports a spurious boot-
  73. sector and/or FAT error on diskettes generated with the CONVERT= option,
  74. though MS-DOS CHKDSK finds no problem.    We've traced this to SCANDISK's
  75. insistence on a certain media byte for a given media type. Interestingly,
  76. in Microsoft's own words:  "Beginning with DOS 2.x, the usefulness of the
  77. disk ID byte in the FAT was reduced and it now considered meaningless..."
  78. Not being ones to argue a minor point, we now insert the proper media
  79. media byte in CONVERT-ed diskettes and SCANDISK is happy.  Sigh...

  82.             What's New in CopyQM 3.12
  83.  
  84. CopyQM 3.12 contains a few minor changes to version 3.11:
  85.  
  86.     1.   Support for the E-Ten Chinese language system has been
  87.          incorporated.  Users who use other double-byte systems
  88.          can force the use of non-extended codes by means of the
  89.          /7BIT command-line switch on any of the CopyQM product
  90.          set.
  91.  
  92.     2.   A bug occurred when a BLIND mode copy was attempted where
  93.          FIRST= did not equal 1.  Only one sector per track would
  94.          be seen when CopyQM was run in Direct hardware access mode.
  95.  
  96.     3.   A few Windows API calls have been added to the Direct I/O
  97.          routines.    CopyQM should run as a background task in direct
  98.          hardware controller access mode  under Windows 3.1.  However,
  99.          IBM OS/2's implementation of Windows and their DOS box appear
  100.          to ignore these API calls, so running as a background task in
  101.          OS/2 will still result in occasional "DRIVE NOT READY" errors.

  103.     4.   Normally, CopyQM and its utilities will access the screen memory
  104.          directly in order to draw displays as quickly as is possible.
  105.          However, if the following switch is used, CopyQM and its
  106.          utilities will use the video BIOS to create screen displays:

  108.              /CRTBIOS
  109.  
  110.          This can be abbreviated to /CR.  For example, if a copy using
  111.          drives A: and B: is to be performed, the following command line
  112.          could be used:
  113.  
  114.              COPYQM A: B: /CRTBIOS
  115.  
  116.          Similarly, all CopyQM utilities, including CQMENU, CINSTALL,
  117.          ICOMMENT, MAKESXD (CopyQM Plus only), DRMAINT (CopyQM Plus only)
  118.          will accept the /CRTBIOS switch.  The configuration viewer,
  119.          VIEWCONF, accepts this switch, but ignores it, as VIEWCONF
  120.          always uses the CRT BIOS.

  122.          Text-to-speech translator users may want to experiment with
  123.          the switches /7BIT and /MONO to reduce the number of non-text
  124.          characters on the screen.    The /7BIT switch forces the use of
  125.          the lower 128 codes in the ASCII set; that is, line-drawing and
  126.          character graphics are not used.  The /MONO switch forces use of
  127.          a monochrome display set.
