. Welcome to SFCOOF .
. <C>lean <O>ut <O>ld <F>iles for the SF BBS .

│ History: │
└──────────┘
SFCOOF was written to as a companion utility to another program I wrote
called FILESTAT. FILESTAT 'peeks' inside each ZIP or ARJ file in a given
file area, and appends a line to your file listings like:
*Files: 7 Oldest-11/15/93 Newest-11/29/93
reflecting the number of actual files inside the archive, and also the
oldest and newest file dates. SFCOOF was designed to aid the sysop in
deleting or moving old, outdated files from the file areas. Since the
file's date in the SFFILES.BBS is not an accurate measurement to determine
the true age of a given file, it would seem more accurate to base your file
area management on the information already provided by FILESTAT. You will,
of course, have had to run FILESTAT before SFCOOF.

I would recommend placing SFCOOF.EXE somewhere in your DOS path, where it
can be easily accessed from any directory. Change to one of your file area
directories, and run the program. SFCOOF, when run, will give you two
options about what to do with the old files.
The first option will delete the files completely, and erase the
corresponding description in SFFILES.BBS. Your old SFFILES.BBS will be
renamed to SFFILES.BAK, by the way.
The other option is to move the old files, in case you wish to save them
offline, or whatever else......<G> In that case, SFCOOF will make an
'oldfiles' directory one level under the one you are currently in. (if one
doesn't already exist) It will use this directory to move old files to and
write their descriptions to an 'oldfiles.bbs' file for your later
convenience.
You will then be prompted for a date. Whatever date you enter will be
compared to the NEWEST file in each file archive, using the appendage
created by FILESTAT. If the NEWEST file in the archive is older than your
specified date, that archive will be either moved or deleted.
SFCOOF will check all files listed in your SFFILES.BBS, processing only the
ones with the FILESTAT appendage.

│ Distribution: │
└────────────────┘
SFCOOF is *FREE*, but will work only for REGISTERED Filestat users. If you
are using FILESTAT and have not registered, please consider doing so today.
Many hours of work have gone into these two programs, and your support is
what partially encourages me to continue in this area.

│ Alternatives: │

If you like the concept of this utility, but don't care for what the
Filestat program does in appending the file information to your
SFFILES.BBS, then you may be in luck soon. I am currently planning to
create another utility that will resemble a combination of parts of SFCOOF
and FILESTAT. The results of this utility will be to do what SFCOOF does,
but will not require you to have the FILESTAT appendages.
