People You Like
Version 1.5
Created by Yan Ke
System Requirements:
- IBM or compatible
- Vga or better
- Around 150K RAM free (who doesn't)
- Around 300K disk space (ditto)
Introduction:
"People You Like" is a program that stores information about people you
like for easier reference. It stores the person name, love-level, phone number,
address, and any notes up to 60 characters. I will definitely increase this in
the future releases. This version is the first release. If you want to
get in the program without reading furthur, you can run the program and enter
"UNREGISTERED" for the password. You don't have to read the rest of this file.
It's just for people who don't have a clue to how to use the program. All of
the important information is in the program itself. I know a lot of people,
including me, don't like to read long doc files. :) Oh, BTW, the data is
encrypted to prevent curious and revengeful brothers from viewing it with a
regular text viewer. :)
The program:
When the program first starts, it will prompt you for a password for
your own security (just in case your dad happens to try to run the program.) :)
A wrong password will result in an error message and the program will exit.
After the correct password is entered, a list of the people you like with the
main menu will be displayed. The list appears on every screen except the help
and information screens. It displays the names of the people you like with
their color-coded love-level. Throughout the program, the "F12" key can be
used to enter boss mode. In boss mode, nothing of the program can be seen (to
prevent your sister from peeking over your shoulder.) :) To get back into the
program, you must type in the password. If you press F12 when the screen is
updating the list, the colors might be different when you get back. You can
either ignore it or press escape to redraw the screen. Pressing escape anywhere
in the program will bring you back to the previous menu.
To add or edit names, enter the "Edit list" option on the main menu by
pressing "1". Then, press "1" again for the "Revise person" option. The
program will then tell you the current information of the record and ask for
new data. Type in the desired name, love-level (0-4), phone #, address, and
any notes you may want to add, and the information will be saved to the
record. If you do not want to change some of the information, then just press
enter. To erase certain information just type in "~". Another option in the
"Edit list" menu, is the "Move person" command. This function allows the you
to sort the people so you can put the people you like the most on top. Simply
type in the record to be moved and then the record to move to. "Delete person"
under the "Edit list" menu will erase all the information of a certain record.
Again, just type in the record to be erased and it will be gone.
"Personal information" is another menu in the program. In this menu are
two options: "Read personal information" and "Edit personal information". The
first option allows the you to see everything about a person at a glance. The
latter allows the user to edit the phone numbers, address, and notes only.
When you are reading personal information, you can press the + or - keys to
scroll through the list.
Under "Help / Info" is a summary of this document and some general
information, such as who, when, how, and why this program was made. It also
summarizes important information that could otherwise be forgotten.
The "Undo changes" option does just as it's name states. It undoes all
the changes that have occured since the program was loaded. However, this
option also exits the program due to my limited knowledge in programming. :) I
will also change this in future releases.
A command that should be used with caution is the "Clear list" command.
This will clear the whole list. The only way to get it back is to use the undo
function. If the program encounters an error in loading the data file, it will
also jump to this command. If you know the problem and you can correct, then
don't clear the list. If the problem is caused by data corruption, then
clearing the list will correct it (although you start out with a new list.) If
I didn't include this function and something happened to the data file, the
program would just exit and refuse to run at all.
Stuff I don't like to read or write but I have to:
Distribution:
This program may be distributed to others provided that the following
conditions are met:
- The program may not be changed or reverse engineered in any way. This
includes using a disk editor to view the exe file.
- All files (PEOPLE.EXE PEOPLE.DOC PEOPLE.DAT PEOPLE.GRA PEOPLE.PAL) must
be distributed together.
- You may not charge more than $5 for shipping and handling when you
distribute the program.
Registration:
Since I don't like those games and software that intimidates you to make
you register, I'm going to turn to beggarware. You may use the program for as
long as you like. Just remember that I've spent A LOT of time trying to make
this program good. If you do decide to register (which I hope you will) send me
as much as you think this program is worth. After you register, you will get
your own personalized copy of the program with custom password. You will also
you will get the newest version of the program. Make sure you send enough
money for postage returns or include a self addressed envelope with enough
postage for one disk.
If you would like to register, please send me your name, address,
the version you currently have, custom password, and the type of disks you
can use. Optional information you can send me is information about yourself,
such as age, gender, type of computer, etc.
If you have ANY comments, please write to me.
