  2.     == TRYING TO RESOLVE PROBLEMS BETWEEN YOUR PRINTER AND KWIKLABL ==

  4. First, if your printer is a 9-pin, it will not print 24-pin borders.
  5.  
  6. Next, let me explain a couple of items that perhaps will help you
  7. understand things a little better.   The selection of 9-pin or 24-pin 
  8. after the opening screen or in Printer Setup only concerns proper spacing
  9. when you are making multiple return address labels or printing graphics.  
  10. It seems that the same command related to partial spacing means one thing 
  11. on a 9-pin printer and an entirely different spacing on a 24-pin printer.  
  12. So the only answer was to have the user identify his printer and then the 
  13. graphic formation and spacing between labels would be correct.

  15. In an attempt to avoid confusion I have changed the name of the 9-pin
  16. borders to Standard Borders because they are "bit-mapped" and work equally
  17. well on 9-pin or 24-pin printers under almost any conditions.  The 24-pin
  18. borders are somewhat different since they are made using the "User Defined
  19. Characters" available only on 24-pin printers.  The quality of these
  20. borders is much better and that's why I continue to use them.  The only
  21. problem is that it seems that everything in the printer works to prevent
  22. the printing of these characters.

  24. Things on your printer to check or adjust:
  25.  
  26. 1)  Your printer should be in the Epson/standard mode as
  27.     specified and NOT in the IBM mode.
  28.  
  29. 2)  If you have a front panel pitch selector, it must be set
  30.     to Program mode.
  31.  
  32. 3)  You should be set to Letter Quality mode and not Draft mode, although
  33.     now I command Letter Quality in the program.
  34.  
  35. If you have a 24-pin printer and have complied with the above conditions
  36. and still can't print the 24-pin borders, then you must go to step 4)
  37. below:

  39. 4)  The only other thing left is to check your DIP switch
  40.     settings while reading the manual and see if they refer
  41.     to a switch having to be in a certain position in order
  42.     to use "User Defined Characters".  On my Epson 24-pin
  43.     the DIP switch controlling input buffer capacity has to
  44.     be set to 1KB instead of 8KB in order to use
  45.     "user-defined or download" characters.  Try setting
  46.     the DIP switches on your printer to the default or
  47.     recommended settings.   It could be that one of your
  48.     favorite settings is the problem.

  51. find and correct any problems you may have.  Please let me know if you
