Rip Menus From: Harvey's Home of The Lazy DOG!
SysOp: Seth Whetstone
Arab,Al
BBS: 205-586-0216
US ROBOTICS 14.4
Hello,
This is all new to me not just the Rip but the old idea of being
a SysOp. I put up the BBS in June of 93. At this time I tried out another
BBS software, which I soon discovered I hated. Power Board 1.25(SHAREWARE)
I decided on PCBoard 15, and have loved it. Ok enough about that junk.
If you look at the Factory PCBoard Rip menus you will find at the bottom
of the menu: w0000000000|#|#|#
I made all these menus with the shareware version of Flatline103. which
does not put the above mentioned on the bottom of the menu. Without this
the menu will display the original prompt at the top of the rip menu and
follow through with original operation right on down through the menu.
Example: (500 mins left) Main Board Command?
I decided that this must turn off the text. w0000000000
Now I guess you see just how much I really know about Ripgraphics.
So to get on with it I added this to the menus and cured the problem
of the text comming through the middle of the rip screen.
I also added @POFF@ now if this actually helps I don't know for sure
I have not had time to test this one yet.
Also at the top of the menu which I am sure I don't need is the
@CLS@.
But it can stay there to for now. everything is working so why mess
with it?
The PDIRR.RIP started out as an adult menu from where I have no idea.
one of my users sent it to me. I did a little editing with a plain old
DOS editor and took everything off of it except the adfile.icn and the
background color.
Once you play with these things a little you can see how you can edit
the menus even with a shareware program the will not let you edit the
files.
Just use your DOS EDITOR and do it manually.
I have made out the check to register Flatline v 103.
Because for $30.00 I feel you cannot beat what you acomplish with
this software.
Once this software is registered you can edit, add icons, even make up your
buttons ans save them for future use.
I also like this style of menus because my users do not have to add
to their TONS of icons in there Rip communications software.
As a matter of fact I live in a VERY SMALL TOWN where no one hardly
ever even attempts to call long dist. So I have several users who in
fact have deleted ALL there ICONS including myself except for a few
I have that come with the Rip Door Games. I mean what the heck
icons are nothing but pictures right so why bother if you never call
a bbs that has them, and if you do more than likely that bbs will have
its own set of icons for you to download right ?
So do your users a favor and make your Rip menus without ICONS.
This also eliminates the need for some doors that look to see if
the user that is calling has the icons needed and sending him or her
the things automatically.
As far as the menus go I am sure you will see that some of the original
commands are gone, but you will be familiar with the commands I have in
of them. and I only have one node so I dont need the WHO'S On button and I
do not allow Alias's on the bbs so we dont need that button either.
To really see how the menus look it would be best if you had a copy of
Flatline. Even though the viewer is from flatline actually loading the
menus into flatline shows you the true fonts I used when creating the
menus.
Now you can use these menus which I am sure your board is different
from mine so I won't try to tell you how to use them.
Of course the Pager.rip and commentr.rip took a little figuring out to do
but if you can do this with the ansi menus then it will work the
same way for the Rip menus.
I also went on ahead and renamed the menus so you could view them of
course they should be without exts.(wildcards)
Are you laughing at my typing and use of the American Language,
You should be by now!
One thing I am and thats a southerner and I certainly am no typist or
writer. But I hope you can figure out what I was trying to say to you.
At any time you like you may call My board and see the whole picture, I am
not like some of the BBS sysop's that say this and then you call and can't
even leave someone a message or a comment to the Sysop.
You may even play the Ripdoors I have on the Board as well.
Most of the Time I will answer the page, I am here at home most
all day an night unless of course I am fishing.(GRIN)
Remember I told you I was a southerner. Actually I am a retired
Autobody Tech. with no previous expreiance with computers of any kind
until May of 1993. I got Hooked on modems and have been playing with them
ever since.
So give us a call and check out the new Sysop's BBS and tell me what you
think.
