INSTALLATION
EXISTING USERS START HERE
If you have installed a previous version of FORM you should do
two things.
1. backup your sstools.ini file to prevent it being
overwritten.
2. backup your FORM.EXE until you have verified that
everything looks OK under the new version. Everything
should work <grin> but who can say for sure? After all
only taxes are certain.
NEW USERS START HERE
To install this version of the form program you should first
create a directory for it (In this tutorial we will call this
directory C:\FORM).
Change to that directory.
Then type a:\FORMxx -d, this will extract the files from the
archive into the current directory creating sub directories as needed.
NOTE you must extract with the -d option.
When you have finished you should have a directory structure like
this
C:\FORM This directory contains form.exe, and a
| sample sstools.inx
+ SHAPES some sample shapes
+ SUE some more shapes by Sue (worth a look I promise)
+ FORMINCS hummm?
+ DOCS the docs
rename SSTOOLS.INX to SSTOOLS.INI
read the section in tutor.doc on configuring, this will help you to
get better resolution displays at a much faster rate.
Now read the tutorial.
Then FAQ.DOC
and then if you're a real sucker for punishment read
FORM.DOC and LANGUAGE.DOC
OLD USERS START HERE
Back up everything, I can't be responsible for my changes.
BEWARE since SCALE has changed it's implementation you will need
your previous version of FORM to recreate your pictures without
editing.
Copy relevant new lines from sstools.inx to your sstools.ini.
I don't think there are any.
You will need to change all objects named "spacer" to something
else, as this is now an inbuilt object.
Beware, SCALE has now changed its meaning.
read the WHATSNEW.TXT file.
File List
FORM.EXE The main executable
SSTOOLS.INX Rename to sstools.ini
a sample .INI file, FORM reads it's defaults from
this. User editable. If you have used fractint or
fractint for windows then you may already have a
sstools.ini file on your path. You can copy the
[FORM] section from this sstools.ini file into
your own sstools.ini, or not if you don't want
to.
README.1ST a readme file, with a short description of
things, hardware requirements etc.
I do hope you've already read it.
INSTALL.DOC This file. But of course you already know that!
Information on how to install FORM, and what the
files are for.
FORMVUE.POV a "template" POV raytracer file (POV is a public
domain raytracer that is supported by FORM).
FORMVUE2.POV a "template" for POV2.
SHAPES\ a directory containing sample .FRM shapes
(contents may vary).
SUE\ a directory containing forms created by SUE CUNNINGHAM
FORMINCS\ a directory containing a single .FRI
file. (contents may vary).
DOCS\
whatsnew.txt whats new, what I'm going to do, and a blow
by blow history
faq.doc pretend questions and answers
options.doc A complete description of the command line
flags, SSTOOLS.INI equivalents, and a list of
the defaults
form.doc credits, notes, and legal blurb
language.doc a poor description of the language, does list
the keywords though.
