  1.  I get a lot of mail from people outside the US who would like to get a
  2. copy of DOSREF but aren't sure how to arrange payment.
  3.  
  4. Payment can be made via the following:
  5.  
  6. 1)   Personal check, bank check, or money order in US dollars on a US bank.
  7.      UK check in UK pounds, on a UK bank.
  8.      Canadian check in Canadian dollars, on a Canadian bank.
  9.         Please do not send Canadian checks in US dollars!  Use Canadian
  10.         dollars.
  11.  
  12. 2)   Canadian postal money orders payable in US dollars.
  13.  
  14. 3)   International postal money order.
  15.         Your local PTT may be able to issue United States Postal Money
  16.         Orders.  I've gotten them from France and Japan, and they may be
  17.         available elsewhere.  Note: while reliable, this tends to be slow.
  18.         It seems to take about four weeks for them to get from Paris to
  19.         St. Louis (the US Postal Service main offices) to me.
  20.  
  21. 4)   US dollars, Canadian dollars, UK pounds - cash
  22.         You can sometimes buy foreign currency at a bank or airport at the
  23.         current exchange rate.  Fold the notes over with cardboard or
  24.         heavy paper.  You might wish to consider registered, certified,
  25.         or insured mail.  Tape the envelope shut.

  27. 5)   Traveler's checks payable in US dollars.
  28.  
  29. 6)   EuroCheques payable in UK pounds.  Please do not get Eurocheques in
  30.         US dollars or Canadian dollars - my banks cannot cash them!
  31.  
  32. 7)   US stamps.
  33.         I will accept unused US stamps at face value.
  34.  
  35. 8)   Spearwood Shareware Services.
  36.         Spearwood is a disk vendor in Australia.  They are authorized to
  37.         accept orders for DOSREF.  Australian registrants may consider them,
  38.         as they can take Australian checks, Mastercard, and VISA.
  39.  
  40. 9)   VISA/Mastercard.
  41.         If you decide to pay by credit card, I will need the following
  42.         information:
  43.                 your name as it is on the card
  44.                 the billing address for the card
  45.                 the date the card expires
  46.                 type of card (VISA, etc)
  47.                 your legal signature
  48.                 your account number
  49.                 the name of the bank which issued the card
  50.         I have to process these through a third-party service, and it can
  51.         take up to three weeks for it to clear.

  53. 10)  DP Tool Club.
  54.         Nicolas Kelemen's shareware service will arrange payment to me if
  55.         you send him French francs, credit cards, or some European currencies.

  68.  I have bank accounts in the USA, Canada, and England. If you can make payment
  69. in any of those currencies, everything's OK.

  71.  If nothing above looks helpful, check with your local airport, US consulate,
  72. or a travel agency.  Someone there might be able to help you.
  73.  
  74.  In INVOICE.TRF there are prices for US, Canadian, and Australian dollars,
  75. and in UK pounds.  I called my local bank, found out the exchange rates, and
  76. wrote down the prices.  As relative currency prices move around, you might
  77. get a really good deal or a bad deal.  If the exchange rate slides too much,
  78. just find the current rate for that many US dollars and send that.

  81. I can not accept:
  82.  
  83. 1)   Checks in US dollars, drawn on a non-US bank.
  84.         note:   US banks are all tied together on a big network. If you look
  85.                 at the bottom of a US check, you'll see a long row of numbers.
  86.                 This is a routing code, identifying the bank and the particular
  87.                 account.  The network does not recognize non-US banks, so
  88.                 although your non-US check is perfectly good, it cannot be
  89.                 cashed without going into "special services", which usually
  90.                 cost more than the face value of the check.

  94. Addressing:
  95.         Please list your first name, last name, and COMPLETE mailing address.
  96.         Though your local postal service may accept packages with something
  97.         like "P. Hunter, Plymouth, England" and deliver them, sometimes Customs
  98.         will send improperly addressed packages back to me.
  99.  
  100.         If your country does not use Roman letters you may wish to enclose
  101.         return address labels in your language AND English - the US Postal
  102.         Service will not accept packages if they can't read the label.
  103.  
  104.         If you provide an addressed mailing label with your order it will
  105.         help.  Sometimes it's hard to read some people's writing, and you'd
  106.         hate for your package to get delivered to the wrong place or returned
  107.         to me, right?

  110. Customs:
  111.         All DOSREF packages shipped outside the USA have the international
  112.         "CUSTOMS-DOUANE C 1" green sticker, with a declared value of one US
  113.         dollar and contents listed as "floppy disks".  Most customs inspectors
  114.         figure any floppy disk is worth a dollar, and the data is appraised
  115.         separately.  If you want the sticker to say something else, send a
  116.         note or filled-out sticker with your order.

  118. Postage:
  119.         All international orders go by standard US International Air Mail.
  120.         The US Postal Service is generally quite efficient, as are the
  121.         Canadian and UK PTTs, but the interface between them is run by
  122.         chimpanzees.  Maybe the mail sits around for the Customs people to
  123.         sift through; I don't know.  Some packages to Israel evidently
  124.         went to the Bermuda Triangle.  If you don't receive your order in
  125.         a reasonable time, send me a postcard or leave a message on the
  126.         support BBS, (501) 985-0059.

  128. Support:
  129.         30% of my registered users are from outside the US.  They get the
  130.         same support (BBS or mail) and upgrade notices as US users.
