  1. Tips on installing Windows programs...

  3. Always install a new Windows program to a separate 
  4. directory. Most set up or install programs will advise 
  5. you where they intend to copy their program files. This 
  6. will NOT insure that other files won't be placed in the 
  7. WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories but it will make 
  8. it easier to clear out all their related files when and 
  9. if the time comes.

  11. With existing Windows programs on your hard disk you 
  12. could print out a listing of the directories of each 
  13. diskette on which the original program was purchased. 
  14. This would give you a list of files to hunt down and 
  15. delete to clear out non-essential files.

  17. A word of caution first, a file that came with one 
  18. program could also have been on another program's 
  19. diskettes and may be used by more than one program. Be 
  20. attentive when trying this method and save these files 
  21. separately for a period of time, until you have tried 
  22. any other programs that may those use the same files.

  24. Some programs now come with a readme or other text file 
  25. which lists all files that are associated with that 
  26. particular application. This is important to look for 
  27. and can save hours of searching and headache.
