  3. In order to reduce the clutter in the WindowsÖ 
  4. environment it is good practice to create subdirectories 
  5. and separate certain type of files.
  6.  
  7. This will make locating these files easier when needed 
  8. and will also improve the performance of the Windows 
  9. environment. If after a few years of use there are 
  10. several hundred files in the Windows environment then 
  11. every request to open a program needs to go through 
  12. these files attempting to locate the necessary files. 
  13. Even with accelerator video boards and such the process 
  14. is overburdened with this clutter.

  16. An example of a Windows directory with suggested 
  17. subdirectories might be:

  19. C:\WINDOWS\
  20.       \ICO\
  21.       \NOTEPAD\
  22.       \PBRUSH\
  23.       \PIF\
  24.       \SYSTEM\ (created upon installation of Windows)
