  3. WindowsÖ is contained on 7 5.25" diskettes or X 3.5"
  4. diskettes. This means that if all of the files were to be
  5. copied onto the hard disk and decompressed they would
  6. occupy approximately 16MB! In a network installation this
  7. much is usually installed to allow for the various
  8. configurations of the workstations.

  10. In a default WindowsÖ installation only 13MB of data is
  11. put on the hard disk. Additional files (occupying
  12. additional space) is added with each new program, utility,
  13. configuration change, or demo that is put on the hard disk.

  15. The total amount of space on the hard disk containing the
  16. WindowsÖ  directory can easily grow to large proportions
  17. as you can see. This is referring only to the WindowsÖ
  18. directory and its subdirectories. When a new program,
  19. utility, configuration change, or demo is put on the hard
  20. disk it is normally placed in it's own directory,but
  21. additional control and features that work with this new
  22. program are added to the WindowsÖ directory too.

  24. It is these ORPHAN files that are left behind when a
  25. program is removed from the hard disk.
