BE SURE TO READ HISTORY.TXT FOR A GOOD LAUGH!
WARNING! If you are using this on Multinode Wildcat, beware that when one
user changes the prompts...every caller online at the time will get changed!
Can make your board very unpredictable and FUN for the Callers!!
INSTALLATION:- Can be installed as a door for WC3.X or in login1 or 2 bat
for WC3.9. So how do I use it you say? Easy! Here are the steps in order.
1) Most important!! Make a copy of your current Wctext.dat and name it
"Wctext.org". This is CRUCIAL! You will use it to reset your default
Wctext.dat back to it's original state following each call. Please do
this now...I won't take responsibility for any lost Wctext.dat files
that you slaved over for weeks...make the copy now! For you dos
beginners...type Copy wctext.dat wctext.org then hit the enter key.
DO THE SAME FOR YOUR WCTEXTR.DAT!
2) Unzip the archive Transl8r.zip into either your BLOATED WC30 home
directory or any directory in your path. If you want to put it anywhere
else you will need to supply complete path names on all command lines.
Isn't DOS just so irritating?
3) Run the door with the following command line from dos to start the
setup utility. TRANSL8R SETUP
This command will bring up the setup program that will lead you through
creating the Sysop.cfg and the Transl8r.cfg in the necessary format.
4) Edit the included Ansi and Ascii screens to match your languages you
will be offering. Make SURE they are saved in BLOCK mode in the draw
and are no longer than 22 lines for best results! You guys wanted
editable screens!!! Remember???? This version does not generate the
ansi and ascii screens anymore! See SCREENS.DOC for how to save in
block mode in TheDraw.
If you will be using the RIP option then run MAKERIP to generate your
RIP Menu...or make it yourself....if you make it yourself the buttons
should return A on button 1, B on button 2, and so on until E and finally
Q to quit. No carriage return is needed...JUST RUN MAKERIP...OKAY?!!!
INSTALLATION: CONTINUED!
5) Okay...here comes the real work involved. You need to make yourself
some alternate Wctext.dat files to use! Get your friends to help you!
I have "Jive", "Col. Klink", "Val Speak", The names can be anything as
long as they are NOT LONGER THAN 10 Characters! The language file that
is entered first in the sysop config (after the path to your wctext.dat)
should be saved as WCTEXT.A Similarly each choice after that will be
WCTEXT.B followd by WCTEXT.C and so on until you have WCTEXT.E . If
you don't have them all then Just put "BLANK" like I did in those lines.
Don't forget that....This section is MOST IMPORTANT..READ IT AGAIN!!
When your users choose language choice A the program will copy
WCTEXT.A OVER WCTEXT.DAT in your wildcat directory...That's how this
works so make sure language choice A is saved as WCTEXT.A in the SAME
Directory as Transl8r! I.E. if Transl8r is in it's own directory, then
the Wctext.a, Wctext.b, and so on need to be there too! Registered
Sysops will receive the ability to download any extra sets of Language
files I have online! Remember that you do the same for your alternate
Wctextr sets for RIP. I.E. Wctextr.a Wctextr.b and so on....I included
some sets for you that are appropriately set up on the default Menus.
MOST IMPORTANT FINAL NOTE!!!!!!! READ THIS NOW!!!!!! I MEAN IT!!!!!!!!!
COPY your original WCTEXT.DAT file to a file called WCTEXT.ORG and add the
following line to your Postcall.bat batch file. (Copy Wctextr.dat to
Wctextr.org as well!)
COPY C:\WC30\WCTEXT.ORG C:\WC30\WCTEXT.DAT
COPY C:\WC30\WCTEXTR.ORG C:\WC30\WCTEXTR.DAT
Please don't make the mistake of using the dos REN command to rename your
wctext.dat to wctext.org....Use the COPY command!
This will reset your prompt back to its default after each call so the next
caller will not have the same prompts that the previous caller changed to!
Then setup either in a door or in login1.bat or login2.bat: See sample.bat!
REGISTRATION:
Translator is now distributed free as will all future "ON-CALL" Software.
THE READING OF SKIPIT.DAT WHICH IS A GREAT FEATURE! MAKES MAIL RUNS
SMOOTHER AND KEEPS YOU FROM SEEING IT WHEN YOU LOGON LOCAL!
Security levels in SKIPIT.DAT will be totally skipped by
the door....Put your calling mail node security level or your level in there

Thanks: Special thanks to Tom Wildoner of T & J Software for his late night
answers to my programming questions(I.E. "Hey Tom, how do I install
Quick Basic?). Also thanks to Shawn McGill of the Improv BBS for
giving me the code to some of his other utils for ideas and for
teaching me how to do a loop! (Saves TONS of code at times!)
