lists.
You can now do boolean text searching through file lists.

laser on multinode systems.
You can now edit file batch queues.
You can now have security-specific daily file and byte limits.
Many, many other new features and enhancements to existing features.
TriBBS 4.02
-----------
Added support for nonstandard IRQs.
Added a DOWNLOAD.BAT file.
Whenever a file area is flagged as a CD-ROM file area, TriBBS will no longer
check that file area when searching for new files.
TriBBS will now allow the caller to change his alias to his real name.
When swapping out to disk, TriBBS will now use a file named TRIBBS.SWP for
the swap file.
If a caller had flagged files and then downloaded a file with the View
Archive command, the flagged files would get messed up. Fixed.
Fixed a few minor display bugs with the download prompts.
TriMan would display some really weird strings for toggle fields if a data
file had become corrupted with negative values. Fixed.
TriBBS would sometimes give a caller the wrong number of minutes remaining
for the day. Fixed.
TriBBS would allow the caller to do a private reply in a conference that
doesn't support private posts. Fixed.
TriBBS 4.01
-----------
When swapping out, TriBBS now passes the environment to the child program.
This will prevent another copy of BBS.EXE to be loaded over a swapped out
copy.
The full screen editor now visually indicates which lines have text in them
and the backspace key now deletes an empty line if the caller backspaces
off of one.
The file menu's View File command now uses 4.0's index files, if any,
when searching for a file.
TriBBS now filters out blank lines in file listings when displaying a
listing.
TriBBS will now delete all 0 byte files that are uploaded.
TriBBS will now display the upload file's name after the FILE_ID.DIZ and
DESC.SDI description entry instructions. This will help comm programs
that don't filter out FILE_ID.DIZ and DESC.SDI when doing name guessing.
Changed the new user prompt "Enter your password" to "Please select a
password".
TriBBS will no longer display the "###-###-####" when prompting a new
user for his phone number if the board is configured for non-US phone
numbers.
TriMan no longer allows the <ESC> key for the same purposes as <F10>.
The <ESC> will now abort the modifications that have been made in the
current data entry field.
TriMan now lets you use the <DOWN ARROW> and <UP ARROW> keys like <TAB>
and <SHIFT><TAB>.
TriBBS 4.0
----------
Most of TriBBS's configuration is now handled by a program called TriMan.
TriBBS now supports aliases.
TriBBS now swaps out of memory to XMS, EMS, or hard disk when it needs to
spawn a program.
Simplified TriBBS's file flagging method.
TriBBS now lets you index file areas.
You can now upload messages to both editors.
Questionnaires can now nest yes/no questions up to 10 levels and now
allows comments in the questionnaire files.
TriBBS now offers a split screen chat mode for callers with ANSI terminal
emulation.
TriBBS will now optionally clear the screen before display its on the fly
menus.
TriBBS can now be configured to search for exact matches during upload
dupe checking.
TriBBS now creates a 0 byte file called POSTED when a caller posts a
message.
When packing the user file, any locked out callers are now automatically
added to JOKER.DAT.
You can now set a minimum security level for posting messages in each
conference.
You can now disable the birthdate question at new user logins.
TriBBS's fullscreen editor now accepts the <DELETE> key locally and the
<BACKSPACE> key now works correctly remotely. The <CTRL><S> control key
has been switched to <CTRL><A>.
Added the following new @-variables:
@kuploaded@
@kdownloaded@
@messagestoday@
@alias@
@uploadstoday@
@downloadstoday@
You can now pack the user file and the message base from the Waiting for
Caller screen.
Added ASCII as an internal protocol.
TriBBS will now take the phone off the hook during BETWEEN.BAT if the node
is configured to take the phone off the hook during events.
You can now optionally assign security levels to bulletins.
BULLETIN.MNU and DOORBULL.MNU are now required even if you have custom
bulletin menus.
Revised TCHAT.BBS and FSCREEN.BBS.
TriBBS will now display the following optional display screens:
COMMENT.ANS/BBS
NOTTHERE.ANS/BBS
PASSWORD.ANS/BBS
ALIAS.ANS/BBS
Added a second user status window.
Corrected a wordwrapping bug in group chat.
Corrected a bug that would cause TriBBS to ask for a file description for
a file that failed the archive test.
Corrected a bug that would prevent the system stats from occasionally
not to be reset on multinode systems.
Corrected a bug that would prevent message conferences and file areas to
still be unavailable to a caller even after his security level has been
raised.
Fixed a number of minor bugs and speeded up a lot of existing features.
TriBBS 3.3
----------
TriBBS wouldn't always detect an error correcting connection when called
from a frontend. Fixed.
TriBBS now logs when a caller has completed a questionnaire.
TriBBS now clears the screen instead of scrolling when the sysop is editing
events, file areas, users, and message conferences.
TriBBS would sometimes run its goodbye after file transfer routine when it
shouldn't have. Fixed.
TriBBS now records all menu selections in the callers log.
TriBBS now warns of auto disconnect at 3, 2, and 1 minutes remaining.
In the log line, "NEW USER added" TriBBS now includes the users name.
TriBBS will now exit with an errorlevel of 2 if the board is brought down
with the F9 key.
Fixed a bug in the full screen editor's overtype mode that would sometimes
cause the cursor to overwrite the line numbers.
The full screen editor now visually indicates whether or not the full screen
editor is in the insert or overtype mode on the top line of the display
screen.
Fixed bug with quoting messages and the full screen editor.
TriBBS now allows you to configure a node to take the phone off the hook
when an event is run.
TriBBS now allows you to optionally not allow access to the BBS for callers
that only use one name. Great for weeding out aliases.
TriBBS allows you to optionally specify whether or not the bulletin menu is
displayed at logon.
TriBBS will now check to see if any files where uploaded during a batch
upload that weren't previously specified. If any are found, TriBBS will
perform the same procedure it does with bidirectional file transfers.
Corrected the mispelling of questionnaire in a few places.
Redid the bulletin, door, door bulletin, and questionnaire prompts to make
them a little more user friendly.
The event configuration editor will no longer allow you to specify an
extension; however, TriBBS will now run the event batch file whether it
doesn't have an extension or it has an extension of .BAT. This will
hopefully make it a little less confusing when new TriBBS sysops setup
events.
Control codes are no longer supported in display screens. An @original@
@-variable was added to take the place of control code 16. A display screen
conversion program will be supplied with 3.3 to convert the control codes
in existing display screens to @-variables.
Added an @messages@ @-variable that display the number of messages the
caller has posted.
Did extension code optimizations.
TriBBS will now take into account the next day's events when calculating the
caller's maximum log on time.
TriBBS will now update the Wait For Caller Screen statistics at midnight.
TriBBS now allows you to optionally specify a maximum time per logon for each
security level in the DLIMITS.DAT file. Note that if a maximum time per
logon isn't specified for the security level, TriBBS will use the maximum
time per logon that's set with Configure System.
TriBBS will no longer display the bulletin menu at logon if the caller's
security is less than the main menu's bulletin menu option's security level.
Added an @pause@ (should be in uppercase) @-variable that prompts the caller
to press a key to continue.
In addition to the file/byte ratio system that was introduced in TriBBS 3.2,
TriBBS 3.3 now offers a file/byte ratio system that will only restrict the
caller's ability to download if he has exceeded is file/byte ratio.
TriBBS now supports subscriptions.
TriBBS can now be configured not to take the phone off the hook during
maintenance routines.
The caller can now select whether or not they want to have TriBBS check for
waiting messages at logon.
TriBBS will now only reset the daily totals when node 1 passes midnight;
however, events are still cleared on a node by node basis.
When a % is encountered in a file's description, TriBBS's Text Search feature
would sometimes lose track of the string it was searching for. Fixed.
When prompting the caller for a new password from the Your Information
feature, TriBBS asked for "you password". Fixed
TriBBS 3.2
----------
TriBBS 3.2 now features an automatic installation program called INSTALL.EXE.
Although TriBBS can still be setup manually, this should help beginning
sysop set up new boards even faster than before.
Added support for file and byte ratios. To setup your board for file/byte
ratios, you need to create a configuration file called RATIOS.DAT. TriBBS
checks a caller's ratios at log on and after the caller uploads and downloads
files.
Added four new file/byte ratio @-variables: @BYTERATIO@, @FILERATIO@,
@SECBYTERATIO@, and @SECFILERATIO@.
Added two new file/byte ratios display screens: LOWER.ANS/BBS and
RAISE.ANS/BBS.
Added the ability to lock out 2400 baud callers on a node-by-node basis.
The sysop can now toggle a message's ECHO status on and off.
TriBBS now allows a file area to be flagged as a CD-ROM file area. Once
flagged as a CD-ROM file area, TriBBS will not check the file area for
duplicate file names during uploads and the file area will not be checked
when moving or deleting files.
Added an F9 key to force TriBBS to shut down the board after the current
caller logs off.
If a file is uploaded with a FILE_ID.DIZ or DESC.SDI file, the description
file will be used in the file list no matter whether the caller entered a
description or not.
TriBBS now longer displays help screens for the full-screen editor or the
TeleChat system internally. Instead, it now displays FSCREEN.ANS/BBS and
TCHAT.ANS/BBS. An FSCREEN.BBS and TCHAT.BBS are now included with TriBBS.
Improved TTPROT.EXE's loss of carrier detection.
Fixed a few minor bugs from previous versions.
TriBBS 3.11
-----------
Fixed a minor bug that would very rarely change a user's name in the users
files.
TriBBS 3.1
----------
TriBBS 3.1 now supports the use of bidirectional protocols such as HS/Link.
On a few machines running TriBBS under DesqView, TriBBS will sometimes
incorrectly report a "Keyboard input time exceeded." message and log the
caller off. TriBBS now allows the sysop to set the Configure System's Max.
No Input Time setting to 0 to disable the keyboard input time check. I
realize that this is only a work around, but this problem is caused by
DesqView and not TriBBS.
Past versions of TriBBS would allow callers or reply to messages when
they didn't have a high enough security level to enter messages. Fixed.
Past versions of TriBBS would randomly give new users access to private
message conferences. Fixed.
TriBBS 3.01 wasn't correctly initializing the video driver for monochrome
display systems. Fixed.
