Sinbaud 3.5 - SYSOP INSTRUCTIONS
=========================================
Copyright 1993 Written by: Rick Salinas
Tired of playing those dice rolling, hacking, space trading
games? Well here is a door program that is full of graphics,
fast communication routines and fun arcade like play. Thanks for
trying Sinbaud. Unlike many Dnd type fantasy games sinbaud uses
ansi animation and positioning for fun real time adventures.
There are over 100 Ansi graphical Screens and 15 animated monsters
to contend with. Sinbaud should interface to your BBS using either
DOOR.SYS, DORINFOx.DEF or SFDOORS.DAT drop files or as a stand alone
arcade game for you PC. And now ANSI MUSIC is available to the Local
and Remote user (providing the user's COMM program supports ANSI MUSIC).
Please feel free to pass it around and upload it to your favorite
BBS.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
CGA monitor highly recommended, MONO is ok providing your
system will support ANSI codes.
(Mono system may not support all features)
Ability to display/receive IBM Extended Characters
IBM XT/AT/386 computer with atleast 256K
INSTALLATION:
SINBAUD should be a relatively easy game to install
on your BBS. Just complete the following steps and you
should be on your way.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
(Run-time Library - Brun45.exe required)
IMPORTANT NOTE: Sinbaud requires the BRUN45.EXE runtime
library to operate. This file must either
exist in the sinbaud directory or any other
directory mentioned in your PATH statement.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
1. Create a directory and place all the
SINBAUD program files into it. Lets suppose
you called it:
C:\Doors\Sinbaud
2. Now that all files are in that directory
we must go to said directory by typing
cd c:\doors\sinbaud
CONFIGURATION:
Now we can execute the Sinbaud INSTALL
program. Execute the program called
INSTALL.EXE
Type INSTALL at the dos prompt. Answer
the following questions.
1) Dropfile Directory: This is the directory where
your DOOR.SYS, DORINFOx.DEF
or SFDOORS.DAT dropfile will
be located. It is highly
recommended that in your batch
file you copy this file into your
game Directory. Please make
note this is the directory and
does not include the filename.
For Example:
C:\DOORS\SIN
2) BBS Name: Type the name of your BBS here.
3) Sysop Name: Enter the sysop's name.
{Probably your Name}
4) Locked Baud: If you have a High Speed Modem
and are running a locked baud
rate higher than your connect
baud rate adjust it here. If
you are running a 2400 baud or
slower you probably dont have
your ports locked. If you answer
incorrectly here your users will
get nothing but junk characters
like "ÇÇÇxxx''xÇÇÇÇx".
5) Maximum Logon Time: The maximum number of minutes
allowed per game. Note: The
time limit in your drop file shall
supercede any value entered here.
6) Max # plays per Day: The maximum number of game plays
allowed per day. Recommend less
than 10 (99 = max).
7) Sysop Paging: You can enable or disable sysop
paging here. If you do enable make
sure you edit PAGE.CTL to fit your
lifestyle.
8) COMM 3 & 4 Base/IRQ: Sinbaud is capable of running on
ports 3 & 4. Due to non standard
configurations on these ports the sysop
is given full control over the HEX base
address and interrupt to use. If you
must use these ports make sure know
what address/irq's you are using.
DEFAULT values are given and should
work for most set-ups. IF you do not
use comm 3 & 4 make sure the default
are listed.
BBS INSTALLATION
SINBAUD requires a DOOR.SYS, DORINFOx.DEF or SFDOORS.DAT dropfile.
Most any door converter can write these. Just incase you dont have
one I made a little utility called DOORSYS.EXE that should work for
all my door games. This program will generate the required DOOR.SYS
drop file if your BBS cant. If you have a GAP bbs you probably
will not need to use doorsys.exe. Please refer to doorsys.doc
for specific information regarding command line options.
At the moment doorsys.exe should work with CALLINFO.BBS, LASTUSxx.DAT
aswell as PCB14.5 generated door.sys drop files.
Thats about it for configuring, now this is how to
start the game. First if you are running a BBS you must suppy a
DOOR.SYS file as mentioned above. If your BBS cannot create
a DOOR.SYS or DORINFOx.DEF file you will have to use a door converter.
You can try DOORSYS.EXE door converter or DRLINK (written by Chris Holton).
Both appear to work ok. These files are available here at the
DARK SIDE OF THE MOON (209)-447-5515
24hrs 300-14400 Baud....
DOOR.SYS users
If your BBS can write a DOOR.SYS (or DORINFOx.DEF) file you may not need
a converter at all! Just copy DOOR.SYS (or DORINFOx.DEF) to the sinbaud
directory and execute the game. A sample batch file may be used...
copy c:\bbs\door.sys c:\sin\door.sys
cd c:\sin
SINBAUD
cd c:\bbs
{restart your BBS}
If you wrote a DOOR.SYS (not created by a GAP BBS) and
are having problems (like GAPQBDR error #6), you may need
to use the doorsys.exe program to filter your version of
door.sys. Copy the drop file (door.sys the one your bbs made),
to the game directory and execute a batch modified batch file.
For Example:
copy c:\bbs\door.sys c:\sub
cd c:\sub
DOORSYS door.sys
SINBAUD
cd c:\bbs
{restart your BBS}
Doorsys.exe is about 90% effective in converting 'old style'
door.sys files to the GAP version door.sys drop file.
For more information refer to the documentation included in
the doorsys.zip file.
COM3-COM4 SUPPORT!
If you run your bbs on com3-com4 and have special settings for
IRQ and BASE address for your ports you can customize these
settings by entering your specs when so prompted by the INSTALL
program. In almost every case the standard default settings
should work for you, but if not you have the ability to adjust it.
MULTI-node BBS's
I have included a command line switch so sinbaud will read different
configuration files for multinode setups. The command line is:
SINBAUD node##.cnf where the '#' is your node number
For Example node 2: Sinbaud NODE02.CNF will use the file called
NODE02.CNF and read in the data about that node. This command line
option is totally optional and not necessary for single line BBS's.
If this command line is omitted Sinbaud will default and read the
NODE01.CNF file. If you need to make configure files for other nodes
simply create them using the INSTALL program.
HIGH SPEED MODEMS!
Be brave as we tread on thin ice (smile)...
Put down the docs clear your mind and grab some cookies and
milk.... while the snack may not help install SINBAUD its
a good excuse to get up and move once in a while (grin).
I have lost many hours of sleep regarding this topic but have
had some success. As you know no two configurations are alike
but I have tried to make SINBAUD as compatible as possible.
So here goes...
If you are running your BBS with a locked baud, you can override
all settings in your door.sys file to assume a locked baudrate.
Simply Supply the correct answer via the INSTALL program as noted
above or MANUALLY edit the file called NODExx.CNF as noted in
said file.
As of version 3.5 Sinbaud should not fly apart if you want to lock
your comm ports at 57.6kb. I hope I get feedback on this if its
still a problem.
That was simple huh? Painless I hope...
PAGE SYSOP function (command line override option)
Included in versions 1.0 and later, a user may PAGE SYSOP.
Use the INSTALL program to DISABLE this function. If you enable
this option you should edit the PAGE.CTL file. This file determines
what time of day paging will be allowed. Its self explanatory. But
remember, it doesnt matter what you do to page.ctl, paging will
NOT work if you DISABLED this via the INSTALL program.
Note: To exit a chat session the sysop must press ESC key.
LOCAL PLAY (with/without a BBS)
To play locally just type the following
SINBAUD local
SOUND/MUSIC OPTION
SINBAUD plays ANSI MUSIC either locally or to the remote user. You
will be asked at each logon if you wish to enable the MUSIC option.
Remote Users NOTE: Your communications program must be able to support
ANSI MUSIC. I recommend QMODEM. This shareware
comm program is one of the finest I have seen.
If you answer Yes but your terminal cannot play the
ANSI MUSIC codes your screen will fill with junk
characters making the game unplayable! You must then
disable ANSI MUSIC by using the Games Options at the
main SINBAUD command screen.
COMMAND LINE SYNTAX EXAMPLE
Hey Im easy.... anthing is ok. For example say we have a setup
for node #3
SINBAUD NODE03.CNF
MAINT.EXE
You will still need to execute the MAINT.EXE on
occassion just to keep the files current.
You should execute the MAINT.EXE atleast
once a day. The MAINT.EXE file will delete old players
from the game and is configurable. Say you want
players older than 30 days deleted from the game to
make room for new players type MAINT.EXE 30 IMPORTANT!
YOU MUST HAVE THE DATE SET CORRECTLY PRIOR TO EXECUTING
MAINT.EXE else loss of player data may occur.
You may use SINBAUD on a trial basis for 30 days
free of charge. Test drive it and see if your users
like it.... This is my THIRD attempt at door writing.
I am not a programmer, I'm a Civil Engineering Student
at CSU Fresno. I enjoy writing door games and
hope others sysops can use them. If the program is well
received I will continue to update this door game and
make revisions should good suggestions come my way.
This is all I ask.... If bugs should arise please dont
get angry... but infact tell me descriptively what
happened and your system set up and I will try to help
you. If you are a registered user you will of course
be able to d/l revisions should they be made available
and never have to reregister your game again! But
please, if you have never registered a door before
please start with this one. Im not asking much just a
little something so I can perhaps augment my hardware.
Please register your copy today. Please see the
REGISTRATION docs called REGISTER.FRM Thanks so much
for taking the time to try SINBAUD.
If you have any comments and have access to Doorware
National Echo, drop me a note and I will try to help you.
Sincerely,
Rick Salinas
PS: If your thought these docs resemble the docs to SUB ATTACK,
Your Right! I hate Docs hahaha But what the heck if your
like me I never read them anyways huh! <grin>
