  4.     Welcome to RoboMail 1.2!

  6.     Thank you for using RoboMail, the ultimate QWK-compatible message
  7.     management system for BBS enthusiasts. Included in the RM11TO12.ZIP
  8.     archive are all files needed to upgrade to RoboMail version 1.2 
  9.     from version 1.1.

  12. UPGRADING FROM VERSION 1.0
  13. --------------------------
  14.  
  15.     If you have not yet upgraded to version 1.1, the files in this 
  16.     archive will not work.  You need to download ROBOM12U.ZIP.

  19. UPGRADING FROM VERSION 1.1
  20. --------------------------
  21.  
  22.     To perform the upgrade, simply place the UPGRADE.EXE file into your
  23.     RoboMail home directory and run the program by typing the command
  24.     UPGRADE at the DOS prompt.  After verifying your files, the upgrade
  25.     program will patch all the files that need to be changed.
  26.  
  27.     If no errors were indicated during the patching process, you should
  28.     delete the following files from your system:
  29.  
  30.         ROBOMAIL.EX$
  31.         ROBOMAIL.OV$
  32.         UPGRADE.EXE
  33.  
  34.     That's all there is to it!

  37. CHANGES IN THE 1.2 VERSION
  38. --------------------------
  39.  
  40.     RoboMail 1.2 is a maintenance release which provides fixes and
  41.     improvements to the routines which are used to automatically detect
  42.     and reconcile changes in the conference assignments on the BBS.
  43.     Since your RoboMail installation can contain a complete database of
  44.     all the conferences available on the mail systems you call, changes
  45.     in the conference structure on the BBS require that your RoboMail
  46.     message and conference databases also be updated.
  47.  
  48.     Under rare circumstances, the 1.1 version can get confused during
  49.     the conference reconciliation process and enter an endless loop.
  50.     For this reason, it is important that you upgrade your installation
  51.     to the 1.2 version as soon as possible.
  52.  
  53.     Version 1.2 also fixes a problem where taglines could be truncated
  54.     to 57 characters from RoboMail's default of 60 when re-editing an
  55.     OutBox message.
  56.  
  57.     Finally, version 1.2 will automatically remove duplicate taglines
  58.     whenever you use the "Sort" option on the tagline manager screen.
  59.     The comparisons used during this process are not case sensitive.

  123. CHANGES AND NEW FEATURES IN VERSION 1.1

  126.     RoboMail 1.1 contains the following changes and new features from
  127.     the 1.0 release.  Thanks very much to everyone who took the time to
  128.     offer suggestions for enhancements.  Many of your requests and
  129.     suggestions were incorporated into the 1.1 release.  Please keep
  130.     the feedback coming, though, because we're always looking for way
  131.     to improve the program.

  135.     o   Added routines to automatically detect and handle changes to
  136.         the BBS conference definitions during the QWK import process.
  137.         RoboMail will now properly update your message database no
  138.         matter what your friendly neighborhood Sysop does to the order
  139.         of conferences on the BBS.
  140.  
  141.         NOTE: If your sysop decides to move conferences to new numbers
  142.               and also change the conference name at the same time, then
  143.               RoboMail will be unable to properly reconcile the changes.

  145.     o   Changed the F10 key on the message viewing screen to call the
  146.         internal tagline manager (or TAGMAN.BAT if configured).  The
  147.         INS key is still used to access the message index screen.

  149.     o   Added the ability to specify the default, conference-specific or
  150.         "other" tagline file when "G"rabbing a tagline.

  152.     o   Added support for PCBoard 15 style file attachments and receipt
  153.         requests.  These capabilities were created according to PCBoard
  154.         15 specifications and should become operational when mail doors
  155.         are updated to support these features.

  157.     o   Added support for "@FROM" Internet addressing with PCBoard 15.

  159.     o   Added two options to the "Auto-Pilot and Sounds" configuration
  160.         screen:

  165.         Use these options if you want the program to automatically do a
  166.         PgDn operation when there is more of a message to read when you
  167.         use the "." (auto-pilot) and ENTER (assisted reading) keys.

  169.         The default for these new options is DISABLED.

  171.     o   Added the ability to successfully import messages of ANY
  172.         length.  During import, messages which exceed 32K will be
  173.         automatically split into multiple parts.  When reading
  174.         these long multi-part messages you can press the "V" key to
  175.         re-assemble the entire message into 1 part for viewing.

  177.     o   You can now start a reply to the recipient of a message by
  178.         pressing [Alt-T] while the message is displayed on screen.

  180.     o   Improved the quick-merge macro capability.  You can now include
  181.         quick-merge macro tokens in the body of the text of your
  182.         outgoing message while you are in your editor (external or
  183.         internal), and RoboMail will merge them with the appropriate
  184.         text as it reads the message data from the disk.

  203.     o   Added the ability to delete an outgoing REPly file by
  204.         highlighting an OutBox cell (with an "R" entry) on the control
  205.         panel and pressing DEL.  If no rep is found, you will be
  206.         prompted to mark all outgoing messages with DISCARD status.

  208.     o   Alt-A,O and C are now a more intelligent about finding the
  209.         message you really want to see when you try to look up a
  210.         thread reference in another message class.
  211.  
  212.     o   Added a "Q"uery key to the tagline manager. Uses the same
  213.         search methods as in the other queries in the program.  This
  214.         will allow you to quickly find taglines relating to specific
  215.         topics.
  216.  
  217.     o   Added "message stitching" compatible with the method used by
  218.         Sparkware's 1st Reader.  Any multi-part messages with [ANSI...]
  219.         in the 1st line will be stitched automatically and displayed.
  220.         Other multi-part messages can be stitched together and
  221.         displayed with the "V" key when reading messages.   During REP
  222.         export, any messages which are split will get the necessary
  223.         formatting to enable re-assembly by others sing compatible
  224.         software.
  225.  
  226.         NOTE: RoboMail will split messages longer than 32K using this
  227.               method during import.  So, if you're using RM to read
  228.               Internet mail and encounter a jumbo message, just press
  229.               "V" when the first part of the message is displayed, and
  230.               RoboMail will assemble the complete message and display
  231.               it using your defined message viewing utility. After
  232.               viewing a stitched message, the complete message is still
  233.               on your disk in a MESSAGE.TXT file.
  234.  
  235.         NOTE: The characters used to enable stitching in 1st Reader do
  236.               not travel through all mail doors and networks properly.
  237.               If you encounter a message that looks like it should
  238.               stitch but does not function properly, the message may
  239.               have traveled through a FIDO, Internet or Wildcat mail
  240.               system.  Alternative stitching techniques are currently
  241.               being developed.
  242.  
  243.     o   Removed the vertical scroll bar from the message viewing
  244.         screen.  This will provide an unobstructed view of 79 column
  245.         messages.  To scroll up and down using the mouse, click on the
  246.         lines above and below the message text window.
  247.  
  248.         NOTE: You can also use the "V" key to view a message which is
  249.               too wide to fit on your screen.  The internal viewer will
  250.               display lines up to 512 characters long.  Use RIGHT and
  251.               LEFT arrows to pan.
  252.  
  253.     o   RoboMail will now automatically add a space to the end of your
  254.         defined quote characters if they are three characters long.
  255.         this should enhance the readability of FL> type quotes.
  256.  
  257.     o   Added a key to perform a solid disk write of all buffered data
  258.         to the message viewing screen.  Press [Shift-F10] to do this.
  259.         People doing risky things in other sessions of multi-tasking
  260.         environments can use this key before performing the operation.
  261.         This may help in data recovery in the event of a system crash.

  264. MEA CULPA! -- RoboMail 1.1 Fixes
  265. --------------------------------

  267.     All in all, it was a pretty clean 1.0 release.  However, a few
  268.     things did slip through our internal and beta testing.  The
  269.     following anomalies from version 1.0 have been fixed for the 1.1
  270.     release:
  271.  
  272.     --------------------------------------------------------------------

  274.     o   Upgraded virtual memory management system is much more tolerant
  275.         of other software.  You should not see "VM Integrity Error"
  276.         messages any more.
  277.  
  278.     o   Sped up the responsiveness of the internal editor.  It should
  279.         now keep up with even the speediest touch typists.
  280.  
  281.     o   Changed the routines that do the "RE:" stripping from subject
  282.         lines so that the subject is padded back to 25 character width
  283.         using ASCII 255.  This should fix the situation where replies
  284.         with "RE:" prefixes that had been stripped were appearing
  285.         before the original message.
  286.  
  287.     o   Fixed invalid "Unable to open standard dictionary" error
  288.         message that was preventing people from importing words into
  289.         their standard dictionaries.
  290.  
  291.     o   Modified text output routines to sort messages by
  292.         BBS+CONFERENCE+SUBJECT+NUMBER before writing them to a text
  293.         file.
  294.  
  295.     o   Fixed bug with bulk marking a thread when the thread contained
  296.         some subjects with mixed or all lower case letters.
  297.  
  298.     o   The main tagline configuration field would allow you to leave
  299.         it blank resulting in "DOS Error 2" aborts.  Input is now
  300.         required.
  301.  
  302.     o   Hitting "O" in the chron to copy a message to the OutBox was
  303.         duplicating the tagline.  Fixed.
  304.  
  305.     o   RoboMail was not checking defined conference-specific alias
  306.         names when determining if a message was "personal."  Fixed.
  307.  
  308.     o   Fixed problem that would cause the exit query for exporting to
  309.         be skipped if all outbox messages were discarded or on hold and
  310.         the only other outbox items were offline configuration requests.
  311.  
  312.     o   During export, messages were getting the system date and time
  313.         rather than the date and time they were saved.  Fixed.
  314.  
  315.     o   When re-editing an outbox message with the internal editor,
  316.         RoboMail would preface each line in the "original" message
  317.         with the defined quoting characters.  Fixed.
  318.  
  319.     o   Fixed problems when ESCaping from the pop-up assistant menu
  320.         with a special sort or query active.
  321.  
  322.     o   Fixed incorrect quote characters when using AlT-Q in the
  323.         internal editor.
  324.  
  325.     o   Fixed problems when specifying a BBS ID in conjunction with
  326.         the /e command line parameter.
  327.  
  328.     o   Fixed "DOS Error 31" problems.
  329.  
  330.     o   Fixed problems that could occur when attempting to add a name
  331.         to the address book before any mail systems had been defined.
  332.  
  333.     o   Fixed bug which could result in messages getting saved to the
  334.         wrong folder if you pressed ENTER while the folder list was
  335.         still getting filled in.

  337.     o   Fixed bug which could result in a crash when saving a message
  338.         from the external editor if spell checking was enabled and the
  339.         standard dictionary file could not be opened (handles or not
  340.         found).
  341.  
  342.     o   The C,M,L,V and E options on the attachment manager were
  343.         operational even if no files were listed.  Fixed.
  344.  
  345.     o   Tags were not being cleared when processing messages marked for
  346.         discarding.  Also, tags were being passed along to folder
  347.         messages when sending messages to folders.  Fixed.
  348.  
  349.     o   Fixed problem which would assign discard status to outbox
  350.         messages when you pressed the [+] or [-] key while in the
  351.         outbox and the conference was set to default to Discard status.
  352.         This was the elusive cause of phantom outbox messages.
  353.  
  354.     o   Fixed problems which could cause an error when attempting to
  355.         edit or use an address book entry containing a BBS that has been
  356.         deleted from the system.
  357.  
  358.     o   Fixed problem with selecting taglines with the mouse.
  359.  
  360.     o   Fixed "Sort On" pop-up menu so that mouse clicks would work.
  361.  
  362.     o   Added better error trapping for disk full conditions when
  363.         accessing DBV files.  When this happens, RoboMail will
  364.         display a informational screen and attempt an orderly shutdown.

  366.     o   Clicking on the "Age", "Keep" or "Discard" options in the message
  367.         header will now move you on to the next message after making the
  368.         assignment.
