  19.         Descended from many generations of pack-rats, the author had old
  20.         wills, land deeds, and diaries that make mention of relatives not
  21.         in my direct line (Aunt Sarah, Uncle Abe, Aunt Anna, Cousin
  22.         Charlie, etc.)  Who are these people???  How do they fit into the
  23.         picture???  Not one genealogy program seemed to provide a quick
  24.         and easy way to show all of great-grandma's close relatives, even
  25.         if their data had been entered.  Family Viewer was written to fill
  26.         that gap.

  28.         Family Viewer is not a general purpose genealogy database program.
  29.         Although it uses its own data structures, this data CANNOT be
  30.         changed and can ONLY be entered by reading in a GEDCOM file
  31.         generated by some other program such as PAF.

  33.         For convenience, Family Viewer allows you to preview a GEDCOM file
  34.         without having to convert and save the data.  This would be useful
  35.         if you want to see how large it is and what family names are
  36.         included.  the program will read the file displaying the number of
  37.         individuals, families and family names.  When finished, it will
  38.         display a list box of all the family names.

  40.         When names are entered, they are converted into 'metaphs' to be
  41.         used for searching.  A metaph is similar to a soundex code, but it
  42.         uses only letters instead of letters and numbers.  (See Metaphone

  45.         Photographs, maps, coats-of-arms, or any document that can be put
  46.         into a graphics file using the 'PCX' format can be attached to a
  47.         person, along with a comment, and displayed by this program.
