  1. Thank you for trying LinkRight.  Please keep in mind that this is beta
  2. software.  There are things that are missing, and some known bugs.  There
  3. is a date check in the code to make this software unusable after Sept 15,
  4. 1993.  The GA version will be available by then.  If not, there will be
  5. a new and better beta version to use.

  7. Most of the features listed as missing are coded but not working.  We
  8. temporarily commented out most of the non-working stuff so we could get
  9. this beta out.

  11. As a beta tester, you are expected to comment on this software.  It 
  12. doesn't have to be a full report, but a one line message, good or bad,
  13. would be appreciated.  If you cannot get this software to work reliably,
  14. we would really appreciate hearing from you, since this is very close
  15. to being a Release Candidate.

  19. Missing Features

  21. OS/2 Command Line Version.

  25. The Batch commands are not supported.  A minor bug that was discovered 
  26. hours before uploading this file.  Rather than have the user guess
  27. whether what he wanted to do would work, we decided just to comment out
  28. that feature.

  30. No online help.  But as knowledgeable OS/2 and LapLink users, I'm sure
  31. you can figure it out.

  33. Performance and speed of file transfer is slow.  This is due to the lack
  34. optimization, plus the overhead of debug code that is still in the 
  35. executable.  The released version (at least the parallel port part) will 
  36. be much, much faster.

  42. Installation
  43.  
  44. Create a directory that will contain the executable files and temporary
  45. work files.  Copy all the files, after unzipping them, into the created
  46. base directory.  Change the LinkRight Object Notebook Settings for 
  47. Working Directory to the directory you created.  You can use the 
  48. template folder to create an object on your desktop.
  49.  
  50. NOTE: As an installation procedure, this is terrible.  The released 
  51. version will be much easier to install and use.

  53. Using LinkRight
  54.  
  55. Double click on the LinkRight object from the WPS (you won't use the
  56. OS/2 command line, will you??) on both machines.  Make sure the cables
  57. are hooked up.  Select one machine as Local and the other
  58. machine as Remote.  Under the Connect menu, select which port you want 
  59. to use for both machines.  You should now have a connection established.
  60. The Local machine should have the half window that displays files from
  61. the remote machine filled with the list of files.

  63. For slower 386 type machines, you may not be able to establish reliable
  64. communication using COMM ports at Hi-speed.  You may want to use
  65. Low-speed or LPT ports.

  67. After you have the connection established, mark files or directories from
  68. the Local machine by single clicking with the primary mouse button (left).
  69. Then hit the COPY pushbutton.  Double click on a directory or drive to
  70. change to that directory or drive.  The .. indicates the parent directory.
  71. Double click on it to move up one directory level.

  73. You should be able to queue more files to send while files are being sent.

  75. The Refresh push button is to refresh the display for both the Local and
  76. Remote file list.
