Fax Manager Door Program:
The Fax Manager Door is designed to allow those SysOps
who do not run a multi-node BBS to offer the convenience of
send-fax operation to their users by doing the faxing
immediately after the user has logged off of the board. As
far as I know, this is the only door which is designed for
the smaller single-line BBS's.
To use the Fax Manager door, simply put all of the files
in this archive into their own subdirectory. In your main BBS
batch file, or wherever your door commands are placed, simply
add the lines:
FAXMGR <Path & filename of the bbs door info file>
FAXMGR E:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS"
It is that simple. This door supports all of the major BBS
software, such as:
PCBoard v12 & v14 (PCBOARD.SYS & PCBOARD.DAT)
Wildcat! (Prior to v3.55)
WWIV (CHAIN.TXT)
Spitfire (DOOR.SYS)
Gap
MajorBBS
PowerBBS
Any other BBS programs that support
either DOOR.SYS, GENERIC.SYS or
DOORINFO.DEF info files.
Seting up the FAXSENDR.EXE program is simple also.
In your BBS start up bat file add "FAXSENDR <Drive & Path to your ZFAX Program>
( Faxsendr e:\fd\fax\ )
right after WIldcats command line so FAXSENDR is executed after every call.
You may use this utility program in your POSTCALL.RUN File if the need be.
See page 151 and 214 in you Wildcat manual (6/25/91) printing for more
information on using Postcall.Run.
Door Operation:
The door is simple and time-saving for the user, too.
Operation REQUIRES a copy of any of the major variants of
Z-modem on the remote side, a copy of the DSZ.COM Zmodem protocol,
and a ZyXEL Group III U1496 fax-modem with the ZFAX software for
the ZyXEL U1496 fax-modem. These software packages are usually
distributed with the modem, or posted on most Bulletin Boards,
and are easy to obtain. Remember you will need a copy of DSZ.COM for operation and it is to be placed in your path or in the FAXMGR program subdirectory.
When the user enters the door, he is greeted by a
customized file (FAXMGR.M) which you are free to modify if you
desire -- it is simply an ASCII text file, with no ANSI
whatsoever. It can be any length, but 20 rows is recommended.
After pressing <ENTER> to clear the initial welcome screen,
the user is presented with a very simple menu that lists the
following choices:
(S) Send A Fax
(M) Color Mode Off/On
(Q) Quit To The BBS
(G) Goodbye (Logoff)
When the user chooses (S), he is asked for 3 pieces of
information -- the fax number to send the fax to, the filename
to upload containing the text of the fax, and the name of the
recipient of the fax. After entering this information, the
user can then upload his or her pre-composed text file containing
the body of the fax. Once this upload is complete, the user is
asked if he or she wants to send another fax -- if so, this process
is repeated as many times as necessary until the user is finished.
One word of caution -- if the user selects (S) again before logging
off, his or her fax queue will be cleared and re-started.
Later, after the user logs off -- using either the door's
(G)oodbye option or logging off through the main board -- the
companion utility will send all of the user's pending faxes and
delete the original files. This is not a program that will eat
up your disk space!
