Community Service
=====================================================================
Program now uses Door Patch 3.8 and supports the following BBS
drop file formats: DOOR.SYS, PCBOARD.SYS, SFDOORS.DAT, CALLINFO.BBS,
DORINFO1.DEF, DORINFO2.DEF and CHAIN.TXT. Compatible with at least
these BBS systems: PCBoard 14+, GAP 4+, RBBS-PC 17+. WILDCAT 2+ and
Spitfire 3+. Also supports baud rates up to 115,200 BPS.
My programs may be on various BBSes around the country under
different archive extensions and types. This is the state of all the
BBSes around the country. I personally like LHARC better, slower but
smaller and suggest you give it a try.
The archive file should contain the following files:
CS.EXE CS.CFG CS.DOC READ.ME SYSOP.DOC
CS.EXE is the main program. CS.CFG is a sample configuration
file. CS.DOC is this file. SYSOP.DOC is documentation for Sysop and
the READ.ME contains some bug fixes and must be included in the
archive file that is downloadable on your system. These files may not
be altered in any way.
My archive file no longer contains DORPCH38.EXE and BRUN30.EXE.
This was done to make the file smaller so that it takes up less space
on the host BBS. If you need either the DORPCH38.EXE file or the
patched BRUN30.EXE library contained in the Door Patch file, they can
be obtained from various BBS systems around the country. The filename
for Door Patch is DORPCH38.ZIP.
This door comes with an example CS.CFG. It is supplied to show
you how to set up the configuration file. The file may be modified to
suit. Please try and limit the limit of your Sysops names to
PCBoard's name length of twenty-seven characters (total length). The
sixth line is for registration serial numbers. If you change the
"Unregistered BBS" name or serial number it will still come up in the
door as "Unregistered BBS" until you get a registration serial
number.
C:\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS < change to suit your system
Unregistered BBS < changes only take affect with registration
Boss < change to sysop's first name
Dude < change to sysop's last name
Your Sysop < Door Donor's name
0000 < changes only take affect with registration
C:\PCB\DOORS\BLT14 < optional bulletin, requires registration
You also can populate the .CFG file with path and filename for a
bulletin. If not populated, no bulletin is generated. The bulletin
shows the latest ten reviews that have been entered into Community
Service. It shows title and date it was entered. As each new review
is entered the tenth one is deleted, the new one becomes number one
and other others are stepped down one position. This shows the newest
entry as the first position in the bulletin.
The bulletin, if used, can be called anything you want and saved
to any directory on your drive(s). Leave out line five if you do not
want a bulletin generated. It is suggested that you generate the
bulletin because it does save users from having to go into the door
to see if new reviews have been entered since the last time they used
Community Service. The bulletin is disabled on non-registered
versions.
The entries in the program are deleted upon the use of the
program following the day the activity ends. The starting date cannot
be more than 30 days in advance. The ending date cannot be more than
90 days after the starting date. This is done to limit the time that
an activity is in Community Service and how far in advance they can
be entered.
The Sysops have the authority/power/option to delete any
record that they believe is not in good taste. Users can only delete
a record if they have input the original record. Deleted records are
replaced with the next entry starting at record one and looking for
the first deleted (blank) record. If no deleted are found the program
adds the new record to the end of the database.
The program does not sort the records since most should/will be
entered by the date of their occurrence. I wrote the various indexes
to speed up operations. The titles are retained in memory so they can
be accessed more readily (loaded in at start of door).
The program, including Door Patch uses nine buffers, one through
nine. Your system must have this many or more (forty buffers and
sixty files is normal for most machines).
Registration provides you with a serial number that will let you
enter your BBS name in the second line of the CS.CFG file. This
number replaces the "0000" in the sixth line of the .CFG file. Please
support Shareware!
If you have comments on the program, please feel free to contact
me. Also, if program errors develope, please contact me at once so
that corrections can be made.
Usable ideas for door programs (games or anything else) will
provide the donor BBS with a free, registered, copy of that
particular program. This is my way of saying "Thank you" for you
program ideas, which by the way, are not easy to come by.
At this time the programs are written to work on any computer
with an eighty column screen. These are my current doors: Music
Review for entering reviews on music recorded on any medium: Software
Review that is used to do reviews on Public Domain, Freeware and
Shareware programs; Movie View where reviews are done on all kinds of
movies; BBS Review where users enter reviews on various BBS systems;
Book Review where users can enter reviews on any kind of books;
Community Service (Public Service Announcements) that is used to list
local and nearby activities; Restaurant Review for doing reviews on
your favorite eateries; Wine Review for doing reviews on your
favorite wines, goes hand in hand with Restaurant Review; Rime List
door for viewing the worldwide Rime nodes, BBS Door Review for
viewing BBS doors (mainly for users to use).
I have a game called Gotcha! where the user tries to see how
many doors can be picked before you are caught. As of this writing
this is an enhanced version.
You can get all my door software directly from me by sending me
diskette(s), any PC format, to cover one meg of files, and include a
mailer with return postage. You may include postage and label for a
reusable mailer.

Please supply name of BBS to be added to program; it may include other data
up to thirty characters. This is to be on one line of code and must be legible
since the serial number is based on exact syntax. I cannot be responsible for
