Thank you for using Colorado Memory Systems Products.
PLEASE READ THIS FILE IN FULL BEFORE INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Whether you have a the file with a .ZIP extension, or a .EXE
extension, please uncompress the file in a directory other than
TAPE. For Example, Make a directory called CMS.
After you extract the files from the archive, you can now install
it either for DOS or WINDOWS but you must be at the prompt in the
installation directory other than TAPE:
************************************************************
NOTE: Please Read this note.
If you want to use the scheduler in Windows, DO NOT install it
when you use the DOS install procedure.
If you install the Scheduler in Windows and you always hear 4
beeps, you need to do the following:
Edit the Autoexec.bat file in the root directory of Drive c:
and delete the following lines.
rem start of Colorado Backup Scheduler
C:
cd C:\TAPE
autoback C:\TAPE
cd \
C:
rem end of Scheduler
************************************************************
If you are upgrading from a previous version of the TAPE
software, make a backup of it and delete the TAPE directory.
DOS INSTALLATION:
1- change to the directory you extracted to. For example if you
extracted the archive to \CMS, type cd\CMS and hit enter.
2- Type INSTALL.
3- If you installed your Tape drive on the floppy controller then
you do not have any special boards. So when the Install asks
you to specify a board, just click on OK.
*** Remember if you want to use the Scheduler in Windows, do not
install the Scheduler here. ***
WINDOWS INSTALLATION:
1- From Program Manager or any Equivalent shell, ie- NDW, CPWIN,
Click on FILE, RUN, and type C:\CMS\WININST. Assuming that
the files are in \CMS.
2- If you want to use Unattended Backup, check the "Install
Scheduler" in the box that appears.
3- If you installed your Tape drive on the floppy controller, then
You do not have any special boards. So when the Install asks
you to specify a board, just click on OK.
4- If the Colorado Group was not created then please follow the
directions in TROUBLESHOOTING later in this file.
5- In order for the Scheduler to work, generally you have to
disable any background programs. Even Screen Savers!
TROUBLESHOOTING:
To get best results, it is recommended that you have the files
and buffers set to 30 each in your CONFIG.SYS file.
For Best compatibility, Boot up your system with a bootable
disk that has a config.sys file which contains 30 files and
buffers and nothing loading in the AUTOEXEC.BAT.
- If the Colorado group was not created, then you need to shut
down all running program in Windows, except program manager.
To determine which programs are running Press CTRL-ESQ.
Also make sure you have at least 512K of memory. Click on the
DOSPROMPT icon in the MAIN group. Type MEM and press enter.
Check the "Largest Executable Program Size" and make sure it is
at least 512K. Rerun the WININST program again- Specified by
the WINDOWS INSTALLATION above.
If are running a shell other than Program Manager, Edit your
SYSTEM.INI file and change the shell to PROGMAN.EXE and then
install the Tape software. Then edit the SYSTEM.INI and restore
the original shell.
- If a format is not successful in Windows, try formatting in
DOS. Use the Guidelines for DOS installation/operation.
- If you install the Scheduler in Windows and you always hear 4
beeps, you need to do the following:
Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory of Drive C:
and delete the following lines.
rem start of Colorado Backup Scheduler
C:
cd C:\TAPE
autoback C:\TAPE
cd \
C:
rem end of Scheduler
- Since this program is a DOS based program, it will achieve
BEST result when run in DOS
- MOUSE. If your mouse is not working, please check the following.
You must have a line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files that
is loading a mouse driver. Windows loads its own mouse driver, so
successful mouse operation in Windows is irrelevant for DOS
operation. Usually you can use the Mouse.com that is supplied
with Windows 3.1 or DOS 6.0. If you cannot locate Mouse.com, then
you can find it on DISK4 of the original Windows installation
disks.
Insert Disk4 into the floppy drive and type: (Assuming the disk
is in drive A:) Expand a:\mouse.co_ c:\windows\mouse.com and
press enter.
Then edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and include a line at the
beginning: c:\windows\mouse.com.
** Note: some systems, EVEREX etc... have a special version of
Windows 3.1. You would have to contact your manufacturer for a
mouse driver or download MOUSE.ZIP from CMS BBS @303-635-0650.
