These are some troubleshooting hints, as well as general hints. Please feel
free to send me any additions you would like to have added to this file.
Problem: BShow hangs right after displaying "Viewing: FILE.XYZ"
Suggestion: Make sure that for all of the "list=" lines in the
configuration file, there is a "> %listfile%" or something.
There must be some statement that redirects the archivers
output to the file associated with %listfile%.
Problem: I always get "NO FILES" on my file listing.
Suggestion: Make sure that there is enough memory for the archiver to
operate. If necessary, enable the swapping command (swap=1
in the configuration file).
Problem: It takes a LONG time for the file listing to start after I type
a filename, or number.
Suggestion: Yell at the author of the file compressor to speed things up a
bit... :) You may be wondering why I didn't include the
extraction mechanisms internally in BShow. Well...
BShow was designed to work FOREVER as an archive viewer.
Obviously, that's a long time, and I don't exepct it to last,
but you need to let a program do what it's designed to do.
The compressor is designed to compress and extract, so that's
what I let it do.
If you can't convince the author to speed up his/her program,
trash the program :) (not), and get a faster computer. (double
not). A faster computer will speed things up considerably.
The BBS that did all the alpha testing is run on a 486-33 so
it seems pretty speedy there. You guys with 8088's, well, good
luck. :)
Problem: I have this really guilty feeling about using this program
without having registered it or some such thing!
Suggestion: Well, if you are a shareware author, you could send me
a copy of your latest project, or if you are a BBS SysOp,
you could give me access to your board -- are you
listening Compu$erve? :) Of course, any suggestions are
MUCH appreciated as I plan to keep improving BShow and
maybe someday go commercial! (JUST KIDDING!!!!) If you
have NOTHING else to offer other than money, well donate
some to your favorite charity in my name (or yours,
don't really matter). That'll give you AND me a good feeling
inside... :)
