**BitFax Release Version 2.061**
This is BitFax release version 2.061 for SendFax modems.
BEFORE YOU USE BITFAX:
The file BITFAX.ARC is archived, using the utility PKXARC. To
decompress this file, type the following line at the DOS prompt
while in the BitFax sub-directory. Do this after you have
copied all files from the BitFax diskette to your hard drive.
PKXARC -E BITFAX.ARC [Enter]
If you don't have a fixed disk you must first retrieve all
files to a high density diskette. Place the BitFax diskette
in one drive while placing a formatted diskette in the other.
Be sure that you are copying the files onto a high density
diskette in a high density drive, otherwise you will not have
enough room for the entire program. While at the B prompt use
the line below to retrieve the files from Drive A to Drive B.
Copy A:*.*
Once you have transferred all of the files, put the original
diskette in a safe place. To decompress the files located on
the working diskette in Drive B type:
PKXARC -E BITFAX.ARC
INSTALLATION NOTES
1. A hard disk with at least 5 MB is required to run this
program
2. After you have copied the files onto the hard disk, be
sure you follow the manual to set up the DOS environment
(using the SET BITFAX=PATH command).
Also, you must use the DOS path command to set up the
path for both BitFax and BitCom. For example, at the
DOS prompt, type:
PATH=C:\BITFAX;C:\BITCOM
3. In your CONFIG.SYS file, set the following parameters:
FILES=25
BUFFERS=30
If you already have these commands in your CONFIG.SYS file,
increase each by 5.
ENHANCEMENTS AND REPAIRS
1. BitFax now supports WordPerfect 5.1. You can
prepare your document in WordPerfect 5.1 and send it
with BitFax while saving your formatting. To do this,
go to the System Configuration Menu by pressing the [F6]
key at the Main Menu. Under 'Word Processor Type'
select "WordPerfect ver 5.1".
2. You can now control the length of the page being sent by
entering the desired amount in inches in the 'Page Length'
field in the System Configuration Menu.
The default page length is 0", which means that the page
will be as long as the last line of your message. For
example, if you have a message or a graphic which takes
up 7" of the page, the actual length of the sent fax will
be 7" if you have this field set to the default.
3. You may now send only the Cover Page by leaving the "File
Name" field blank when sending a fax.
4. You can now convert a file to the .BFX format without sending
it first. If you have a file you wish to save to this format,
insert the file name in the 'File Name' field on the Main
Menu. In the 'Fax No.' field type in the letter 'C'. Press
[F2] to send. At the bottom of the screen you will see the
choice [F10] to convert the file to the .BFX format and save
without sending.
5. There are now two ways to assign a Group Number to a record.
a. When entering a new record hit the [F5] key to add a record.
This will give you direct access to the Group Number field.
b. If you have already entered the number into the PhoneBook
and wish to assign it a Group Number, highlight the
desired record and press the [Alt] key while at the same
time pressing the corresponding Group Number assignment.
If you wish to remove the Group Number from a record,
simply repeat this step as it is a toggle key.
6. When sending a document produced with PrintCap you will notice
that the font has been improved.
END-USER NOTES
1. VideoCap will work only with an EGA monitor.
2. When creating a document, keep in mind that BitFax will transmit
only 60 lines per page.
3. On the Cover Page the "To" field will automatically be accessed
from the PhoneBook if you have selected a record from the
PhoneBook.
Because you cannot see this before the fax is sent, you will
only see a message saying: "Retrieving Fax Number From
PhoneBook....".
Thank you for your continued support.
