  2. TIME: Late Cretaceous
  3. LOCALITY: North America (Alberta)
  4. SIZE: 6 ft 6 in/2 m long

  6. This was the "brainiest" dinosaur of them all
  7. the brain cavity in the skull is, relative to
  8. its body size, the largest so far discovered.
  9. Its brain was larger than that of a modern
  10. emu. Comparing it to that of a mammal,
  11. scientists reckon that Troodon was about as 
  12. intelligent as one of the less-intelligent
  13. modern mammals, such as an opossum.
  14. Only incomplete skeletons of this troodont
  15. have been found. It seems to differ little in
  16. structure from Saurornithoides, leading some
  17. paleontologists to think that it is actually
  18. the same animal. However, the clawed fingers
  19. of the Troodon specimens seem longer and
  20. slimmer than those of Saurornithoides. 
  21. Also, Troodon was probably of a lighter
  22. overall build; it is estimated to have
  23. weighed between 60 and 100 lb/27 and
  24. 45 kg.Like other members of its family,
  25. Troodon possessed a large brain and large
  26. eyes--each eye was about 2 in/52 mm across,
  27. the same size as that of a modern ostrich.
  28. Combined with its slim build, these features
  29. would have made it an agile runner and a
  30. night hunter, with fast reflexes and
  31. well-developed senses.
