Element of the alkali group, symbol Rb,
atomic number 37, relative atomic mass 85.48.
It is a soft, white metal which tarnishes
instantly in air and ignites spontaneously.
Discovered spectroscopically by Bunsen and
Kirchoff in the mineral lepidolite, it is
slightly radioactive, and is used as a
photo-sensor.
