  2. claimed occult powers and employed the
  3. terminology of alchemy to expound their
  4. mystical doctrines (said to derive from
  5. Paracelsus). The name comes from books
  6. published in 1614 and 1615, attributed to
  7. Christian Rosenkreutz (`rosy cross'), most
  8. probably a pen name but allegedly a writer
  9. living around 1460. Several societies have
  10. been founded in Britain and the USA that
  11. claim to be their successors, such as the
  12. Rosicrucian Fraternity (1614 in Germany, 1861
  13. in USA).
