Stretch of drained marshland on the Kent
coast, SE England, between Hythe and Rye,
used for sheep pasture. The seaward point is
Dungeness. Romney Marsh was reclaimed in
Roman times. New Romney, formed by the
amalgamation of Romney, one of the Cinque
Ports, with Littlestone and Greatstone, is
now more than a mile from the sea; population
about 5,000.
