Emilia-Romagna, Italy; population (1988)
131,000. history Its name in Roman times was
Ariminum, and it was the terminus of the
Flaminian Way from Rome. In World War II it
formed the eastern strongpoint of the German
`Gothic' defence line and was badly damaged
in the severe fighting Sept 1944, when it was
taken by the Allies.
